hey guys well as the title says its jus not starting. glow plug light comes on and i can here the pump running. it cranks and cranks fine smoke comes out of the tail pipe and every so often it will hiccup and try to start but no start. any ideas?

ok ya i i did find out fuseable link was bad and starter was hanging up but ill check the injector line. i did have the truck pluged in all last night

Start with the basics. Check the oil and coolant levels. Check the air filter.

Load test the batteries.

Hot wire the lift pump and run about a half gallon or so of fuel out of the drain into a clear container. Let it sit and look for water bubbles or crud.

Note the flow when running fuel out of the drain.

Check the fuel filter. Id there is crud in the bottom of the bowl, I use an inline fuel pump similar to a lift pump - a lift pump will work - to clean out the bottom of the bowl. I use diesel or Sea Foam to clean the bowl if it isn't clean the first time I suck it out.

Test the glow plugs for continuity and for continuity fron the controller. If the glow plugs have been in a long time just figure on changing them - I use copper coat anti-ssez on the threads and spade connections

just bought a 93 today, Im told fuel pump runs off oil sending unit so another thing to consider

Hotwiring the pump will help tell you if the pump is working. And help you diagnose a bad lift pump or oil pressure switch/OPS.

If you get no fuel out the drain with the pump hotwired then odds are you have a bad lift pump. It could also be a plugged tank sock.

If it's not super noisy you can usually hear the pump run. Hearing it run doesn't necessarily mean the pump is worling.

Having 12 volts at the pump doesn't mean the OPS is good. You can have 12 volts to the pump but if the OPS is bad it might not be sending enough amps to run the pump.

At some point when I have the pump off, before I junk it, I run a couple of hoses off of it and try to pump from one container to another.

If the oil pressure switch/OPS is bad use an AC Delco for replacement. Same with the Lift Pump

You will at some point in time want to do the double relay lift pump upgrade. There are schematics here in a recent related thread. My computer is messed up and I can not copy and paste
