So I'm towing a flat car carrier with a G35 on it. I have the trans in Tow/Haul and everything is normal. At one point I try to pass a slower truck in my lane and ease into the throttle. The trans bucks a couple of times and gets stuck in what seems like 3rd gear. The SES light comes on. I pull over when I can and shut the truck off. After about 10 mins I start the truck up. The SES is back on but the truck shifts normally. After three ignition cycles the light goes off. I haven't checked the codes yet. At the time I was running a Predator on 65 with the Edge on 2. I left it out of Tow/Haul for the rest of the trip and it was fine. Any ideas?

predator and edge = to much power for the old ally. take the power back if you want it to last for a while more.

x2. Mine did that with the Quad on 135 and foot on the floor. Same things yours did. Back it down, cuz its only gonna get easier to limp from now on.

The thing is, I really wasn't getting on it. I never mat the throttle, I am very careful to ease into it. The thing I notice with the stack is that the tranny will sometimes "forget" what gear it's in.

sometimes carefully easing into it is worse off for the trans it wont down shift and stays in 5th causing all the power to pass through the t/c and gear packs at lower pressures. i never had it limp when going balls out, it was the casual move to pass someone or to keep speed up an incline.

:thumbsup:Interesting bit of information there Joe. Thanks...

That makes sense, but while towing a trailer, do you think it applies as well?

even more so because of the added weight the trans needs to move. you are in the throttle "more" subtle than with out the trailer. the trans aside from the tow/haul button being on or off doesnt know you have a trailer hooked. the pressures are the same as unloaded.

x2. Rolling into it or accelerating without downshifting in the higher gears is where I limped mine most of the time. After it limped a few times though, it would limp the 4-5 shift, even going balls out. Gonna get worse everytime you do it.

I personally never tow above lvl1.....ever. Stock trannys dont do to well tuned pulling loads, especially lifted with big tires.

Better back off the power or you will be limping it on the daily.

I've limped mine while getting into it a few times. But I can see where using the throttle lightly would limp it too. Especially because it's not going to de-fuel as much with a lighter throttle.
