TorqShift Recall?

On a recent mission trip from Michigan to Moss Point Mississippi, our church's mini bus (2005 Ford F450, V10 chassis, 30,000 mi.) had transmission problems. When we took it to the dealer(Estabrook Ford), they gave us a estimate of $5,000.00 to fix it. We were suprized, as the truck was only a few months out of warrenty, and under the milage.
I spoke with the mechanic who did the diagnosis, he said the seloniods were full of metal shavings. That the rear planetary was coming apart, and filling the trans with debris. When I asked to look at the parts, he said, he had not disassembled the trans, it was a known issue with the Torqshift. He had replaced the seloniods, test drove it, it was ok at first, then started acting up again.
They shipped in a reman trans from Atlanta Ga. Worked late on a Friday, to finished the install, and cut the ptrice down to $3,800.00. We left the next morning to drive home, all was well.
I was wondering if this is this something Ford has a recall on? Are there other owners who have had the same problem? Did Ford stand behind it for them?
Thanks in advance.

Ford never has and never will stand behind anything they build by issueing recalls. Our 01 powerchoke went through torque shifts left and right 3 to be excact, the first at 22,XXX miles they said the waranty was void because the truck ws dead on the side of the road with our at the time big trailer a 5 horse slant 30ft when road side assistance came, they said the truck was far over it's recomended GCWR, 4500.00 big ones the next was about 30k more miles no warranty and the 3rd one it was left at the dealership with 65,XXX miles dad told the dealer to give him $12,000 for it then we went to get a truck with an alli. To bad the rest of the truck was pretty good. Our older fords ran forever and never had a hick up or problem, there engineering has come down a few notches.

There has been issues with the reverse planetary on the 04 and SOME 05 models.

There is a dealer campaign Number 04B24s3 you may want to check as maybe you should not have paid for this fix.

The reverse planetary is the only one that has given some problems

Page 2 of the campaign does state that this repair should be done at no charge.

The vehicle with know problems should be identified by Oasis depending on manufacture date.

I would deffinetly check into this and work very hard to have trhis money refunded to you.

Could be, we owned a 6.0 for a little while but it wouldn't hold up long nuff for the tranny to give us problems. Either way we could never get any help on any warranty issues.
