On a recent mission trip from Michigan to Moss Point Mississippi, our church's mini bus (2005 Ford F450, V10 chassis, 30,000 mi.) had transmission problems. When we took it to the dealer(Estabrook Ford), they gave us a estimate of $5,000.00 to fix it. We were suprized, as the truck was only a few months out of warrenty, and under the milage.
I spoke with the mechanic who did the diagnosis, he said the seloniods were full of metal shavings. That the rear planetary was coming apart, and filling the trans with debris. When I asked to look at the parts, he said, he had not disassembled the trans, it was a known issue with the Torqshift. He had replaced the seloniods, test drove it, it was ok at first, then started acting up again.
They shipped in a reman trans from Atlanta Ga. Worked late on a Friday, to finished the install, and cut the ptrice down to $3,800.00. We left the next morning to drive home, all was well.
I was wondering if this is this something Ford has a recall on? Are there other owners who have had the same problem? Did Ford stand behind it for them?
Thanks in advance.
