Well I broke a brake line in the front of the Burb yesterday so I had to call a tow guy to bring it to the repair shop... Depressing. Broke her flatbed cherry.

If GM had normal brake line fittings I would do it myself, but I have no desire to fabricate brake lines. No one in my town had/has the right lines anyway.

... The Burb needs a few small things done anyway. I cannot wait to see the bill from the Stealer :mad2:

At least the tow guy is a huge diesel fan and really enjoyed seeing a diesel Burb. He has a Ford 7.3 on 36"s that runs 40PSI and runs 9.1 in the 1/8 mile!!!

I will keep you all posted on my financial ruin on some small repairs.

was it a hard line, or a flexible one? If flexible, then they do make upgraded stainless replacements, and if hard, they offer pre-bent replacements. inlinetube.com is where i got my pre-bent stainless steel ones for the rear axle on my 91 Chevy. They have a pretty big application list, so they should be able to help you out.

sorry to hear about the tow.

The threads on the fittings are standard. The nut size on the gm fittings is different. I've done plenty without having to double flair. A couple of lessons and the double flairs are not that hard to do.

I hope you mean you just used stock brake line lengths and that is the reason you didn't have to double-flare.

Agreed, with a good double-flare tool, it's not bad.

Yep. A couple times I had to make a loop :rolleyes5:to take up the excess. I bought a good double flair tool and got over the fear of doing it with a couple of lessons from someone with plenty of experence:thumbsup:

Did you find a SS set for the Reg Cab C&C DRW??

Mine are ready to rust through, and I would like to buy a complete set, but I only saw Crew Cab DRW , nothing for C&C...

I bought the ones from the master down from the stealer. Rest auto parts. Brake lines are supposed to be done with an ISO flaring tool.

Total estimate: $1250

Items to be done:
1. Check refresh A/C system. (replace schrader valve?)
2. Fabricate and replace front brake hard lines. Bleed/cycle 4WOL system and all that good stuff.
3. Remove two rusted up T-50 bolts for the rear seat.

I am in the wrong business. Of course they said a whole other boatload of stuff "could" be replaced, but it was pure marketing. Like air filters and stuff normal people might fall for. For the record the air filter has 2K on it - it does not need replaced.

The inlinetube SS set looks pretty good!... I start a new job on Monday, so honestly I do not have time to do it myself.

Arg!!!

no i have not, but i think one can call and ask. They did mention they do make more than their catalog lists, IIRC.

I think your're getting ready to get screwed by the stealer!

I blew out a brake line in my old truck last year. Bought a double flare kit and I'll admit it drove me crazy trying to figure out how to make good double flares. I finally got the hang of it though.....it was all in the length of tubing I had sticking out for the first flare. Once I got that figured out they came a lot easier. I just bought a piece of extra tubing and sat in the garage and practiced until I got it figured out.

GM just announced a recall for failing brake lines on '99 and earlier C and K trucks. Too many failures due to rust in the snow belt regions.

I can agree though. I have had loads of old old old cars and this is the only vehicle which has broken a brake line - ever!
