So I have been pondering this idea about dual IPs, watching that tractor with dual IPs is contagious, and was wondering if it would be possible with electronic IPs? I talked with a friend about it a little bit and he seemed to think it would be easier with dual PCMs. Dual PCMs would require more fabbing to the front cover for an extra CPS and I was wondering if the secondary PCM would care if a tranny wasn't attached to it. I'd really like to be able to do it with one PCM but don't know if there is a way to split the PMD signal from the ECM.


Oh and this is not an imminent project just some daydreaming.
 
Dual everything would allow one to stagger the injection events per cylinder a wee bit.

Do you have two right feet for the two throttles?? :D
 
throttles would be pretty easy to mount 2 sensors on 1 pedal. why would one want to stagger the inj events? seems the time for inj events is pretty narrow anyway
 
Narrow but they're splittin' hairs nowdays with the 'modern' stuff.

Think Multiple Spark Discharge kinda sorta.

I'd think this way it would be easier on parts.
 
Could 2nd PCM be a manual transmission program then wouldnt know about tranny.

It would be good to use different timing but not sure the IP's could do it as delayed timing might backfeed 1st and cause a housing pressure issue ???
 
??? Use same program and fuel map but change parameters that control automatic to think its a manual ???? I have no idea how similar the programs are. I am only guessing the manual trans program just doesn't call a automatic control subroutine or something ????
 
so any thoughts on how the split the signal to a pmd? does the pcm supply power to the pmd or only send a signal?
 
I am over my head understanding the pmd. But to try and answer your question. I think both. It amplifies and switches the signal on and off. A transisitor has to have power and a signal input. I kinda sorta have thought of them as a kind of DC transformer (in function not operating principle).
 
I can understand the amplifier part but does it draw it's power directly from the PCM? seems like it would need to get it's power from the battery directly rather than thru the PCM
 
I guess the PCM might relay the power doesn't provide the power directly??? If so it does control power but doesn't fully supply. I think it does provide the signal to be amplified? I think it works like this the fuel pedal sends a "raw" signal to the PCM which checks control program then sends a signal to the PMD/FSD which conditions the signal and current to drive the solenoid. The PCM and PMD have to work together to control smooth drivabiltiy.
 
so according to this electrical diagram the pmd does use batt power and the PCM only sends a signal to the pmd. so the ? for you electronic gurus out there is it possible to split the signals from the PCM?

I thought the PCM sent a 5v signal out to the PMD, If that's the case, keeping that signal shouldn't be to hard. The hard part would be timing the IP's so they are the same I would think.
 
if you could use one PCM and 2 PMDs then it should be fairly simply to time them. Just time them on at a time so you have the exact same numbers
 
True .Depending on how they mounted could be a pain in the arse. Aren't they run by a single chain/belt on the tractor? Don't remember haven't seen the video in a few years.
 
seems like it was a belt but it's been awhile since I watched it too. if a belt was used getting the IP to turn in the right direction make take some doing
