Hey guys, I'm relatively new to the site. I've read a ton of posts, learned a lot, and really enjoyed all the information shared here. So thanks for your contributions! Anyway, I've got a 1990 6.2 Suburban 1500 with a leaky radiator and I'm trying to find a good replacement. I've been looking at a Spectra SGT-CU850, and it seems like a good choice, but I was wondering if there is a radiator out there that's better than the OE and can be had for less than $425? (That's how much the spectra is on Summit Racing's site)

Welcome to the forum.

I can tell you I had 100% failure rate from 1800radiator. In the period of 6 moths I put in 5 new radiators in different rigs, not 1 made it 1 1/2 years. Major nightmare with customer service.

Does Leroy get Radiators?

I was hoping that there was a consensus among 6.2 owners as to which radiators are good, bad, etc. My truck has about 200k on it, so I guess the original radiator lasted a decent amount of time, but even before it started leaking the engine would get pretty warm driving up the hills here in Utah. I've owned the truck for about a year and a half now, just going through it and replacing all the worn out stuff. I'm thinking about using it as a work vehicle in the future, hauling a small trailer with glass/windows.

I will leave brand/company suggestion to others, as leaking it is obviously done.

But you do need to read this forum about the h.o. waterpump mod. Take it from a guy who has wiped out a few of these engines, in Hummers and pickups, the redline on the factory gauge is to high. Only use ac delco t stat (Leroysdiesel.com) If you are going to do water pump and fanclutch while you are there, don't order any parts until you learn what I am talking about.

Standby, The pros will be with you shortly...

Do you have a thread you could point me to about the water pump mod? Tried a few searches and didn't really find what I was looking for.

Welcome.

Thanks Will.

If you need anything for the 6.2 6.5 let me know I can save you money normally.

Checked the Spectra radiator I can only beat it by $4 at that I make $8 pretty sad.
I can also get all the 2000 cooling componients (a/c Delco)

So the HO water pump is just a later model 6.5 one then? Does it require any modification to work with a 6.2?

The 2000 model year water pump is the best. Even the earlier HO water pumps still starve the passenger side of the motor at high speeds. I believe if I remember the numbers at 2800 only around 30%coolant flow is going through the passenger side of the block. I do not remember the part number. It is reverse flow.

An option that may also be worth be worth looking into from Peninsular. They offer a HO water pump that they designed for there boats. It turns clockwise and I believe it will bolt up to your pulleys and such. I do not know how it rates on balancing the flow.
