Here's a pic of my 'new' motorhome... just got in August.

Discovery1.jpg

Used, but not abused... we're really looking forward to getting out on the road with it!

Sold my travel trailer. This motorhome was in the family since new. I'm in the process of restoring it. I saw it being built when I was 2 yrs old. I hope to be camping again in it next summer.

1970 Dodge Travco
318
b727 torqueflight
22 Foot all fiberglass.
History:
My father bought it new in 1970 It was custom built(they all were sort of) has his name engraved in the dash. Back in the 60s and 70s when these motor homes didn't have to meet any safety standards the Travco was way ahead of it's class. The entire camper is a steel enforced rollcage with fiberglass. They showed my father pics of one after it rolled down a hill and it was still intact. Winnebagos in thos years were nothing more than a tin shed on wheels. 38 yrs later this camper is still water tight. All the cabinets are real wood. It has detiorated the last few years but This winter I'm going full steam on a full restoration. I grew up in it and could not bare to see it go to the junkyard. I bought it off my parents back around 1999. I then sold it about 1 year later as I needed money for something else. Well I regretted it deeply and tried to buy it back but the guy who I sold it too had resold it. He didn't know to who or where it went but thought it left the state. A few years later(christmas to be exact) we were haeding down to Amityville LI(ys home of the Amityville Horror) to see my father in laws new house he had just bought and as we pulled down his street for the first time I yelled stop. There she was sitting in the driveway across the street. An eyesore to the local snobs. I knocked on the door but the girl/woman who owned it was not home. Her mother seemed jubliant at the though of someone removing it form the driveway. There is sat with a flat tire. So after 3 months of phone tag I finally got to talk to her. She had dreams of restoring it but no funds. I explained the whole story of it and she felt so sorry for me she basically gave it back to me. I pumped up the tires put a fresh battery in it and drove it back to Ct, It now sits alongside the house covered patiently awaiting it's full restore. I have nearly all the pieces I need. The one weakness of it was the drum brakes in front axle. They only made disk in the 220 model for three years 73-76. There are probabaly less than 20 of them left in the US that I know of. I found a 73 on ebay and won it for 68$. Obvoiusly it was a junker but everything I need for disk conversion is there. When I start restoring it I'll update. Not doing it half assed this time. Gonna do it right.
