hey guys,

my boss is ready to bite the bullet, and go through his Dodge. It is a 1998 Dodge Ram 3500, 12 valve Cummins, 5 speed, 4wd, regular cab, 11 foot capable chassis cab, and of course, a dually.

the front end is essentially shot. The last time he had an alignment done, the guy said everything is about maxed out on adjustment, and next time it will take some big work.

so, after blowing something apart in the driveline, (let out on clutch in 1st loaded over 30K combo, big loud pop, and no movement in any gears, luckily did it 3 miles from home after going on a 200 mile trip!) the dodge is down, and headed to the shop, and it is repair and rebuild time.

so, he was wondering, depending on what is shot, he was wondering what all to replace, and what brand to use, and also, is there any site vendors selling any thing for dodges?

keep in mind, this has been his prime mover, and even though he has a 03 3500DRW, this 98 will still do much of the work, so premium, high strength parts are a must. he is staying stock on the tires and ride height. it is mostly highway, but does see dirt roads about 10-15 percent of the time.

right now, the list is tentatively like this:

1) Dynatrac front hub free spin kit, and possibly low profile locking hub (still has original unit bearings, so more preventative maint., also for 2 low manuvering w/ trailer)
2) Dynatrac Ball joints (current likely wore out)
3) Borgeson Steering box and steering shaft (if needed)
4) steering box frame brace (the crossmember type) and track bar. IDK what the functional difference between the adjustable and rigid track bars are, and also have no clue which brand to go with on these two products, so many out there...

5) something I recently heard. something called luke's links. IDK what they are, swaybar end links, or links for the suspension? anyways, heard they were better, so they most likely will make the list.

6) probably some amsoil

7) probably some bilstein shocks.

please, please, add whatever you think is necessary, even if you arent sure if it is necessary or not. worse we can do is check out the site, and decide against it.

I am kinda lost, since it isnt IFS GM products, and my boss is lost, since up until recently, he just put OEM parts on everything, so any suggestion is greatly appreciated.

thanks again guys!

Sounds good to me for a work truck.

I'm preferential to Moog "problem solver" stuff and Timken, but that's just me.

Just tell your boss to replace all the wearing parts of the suspension/steering and you should get another 5-7 odd years of reliable service.

Just remember to repack those bearings every year on the dynatrac bearing kits. Also, recheck them after a couple weeks for proper loading.....

oh, he is planning on being buried in this thing, so we are hoping about another 30 years. :) on anything that isnt upgradeable to the above list, we will definitely do your suggestions. I too have considered those to be the top of the line parts.
