So in 3-4 weeks I'll be driving down the Alcan and on to Las Vegas to deliver my brothers truck and stuff to him. My tenative route is to go to Edmonton and then down to I15 from there. I'll head down I15 all the way to Vegas. I believe Mike (BTFarm) is going to send me the oil can and I thought it would be cool to make a few stops and meet people and have them sign the can. Obviously I won't be able to drive very far off from my route, but if you want to sign the can and have a mini meet and greet this would be the place to sign up. The one detour I'm going to make is to go see Simon who I already talked too. So post up if your interested. Also if Jim is willing I thought I'd drop off the can with him. Or if it would be better I can leave it with someone else.

Mods I posted this here for more exposure and if possible maybe double post it in another area.

wow, that's going to put a few miles on the truck. I've been on I-15 between Butte, MT and Vegas a number of times. You'll be within about 5 miles of the house I grew up in as you leave Idaho Falls. In fact on a clear day you can see the barn if you know where to look.

Figures, I'll be out of town from the 11-23rd of April. Maybe on the return trip? We're across the lake from Provo UT and would be pleased to provide you with a place for the night if the schedule works out that way. OrionThade and I work just off of I-15. He's a few miles north but still close enough for a mini-GTG.

PM me for contact info.

Paul

not sure exactly when I'll be leaving as I'm waiting on my passport card. could be in that area before the 11th if it's speedy.

That would be great. But please, drive safe. I've already signed the can so that's not a concern; just would be great to meet ya.

well it looks like the can won't be making the trip. Mike told me it was going to cost $90 bucks even usps. dang that thing must be heavy. prolly be $200 ups

I want to take a trip out west sometime. If you were heading this way id be in for it. Ive only been to Bristol Tennessee, Virginia, New Jersey, Maine and all the stuff in between. Wish i could afford to have a week off and just get in and drive...

Is this the route? (basically)

I plugged in ANK as the start point in Bing maps.

Have you planned out the fuel stops? Going to take along a jug of fuel? :)

3428 miles according to the map. That's a haul.

Yup that's it. I've driven it so many times that I don't need a map. Even when I first started driving it I only needed a map for reference from Edmonton south. When your going north once you get past Edmonton you have to be trying pretty hard to get lost. I've driven it somewhere around 30 times. My record doing it in 2 1/2 days from Anc to SLC. I also drove it 3 times in less than 2 weeks.

WOw didnt notice how far alaska was up there. So whats it like to live in alaska?

Probably the biggest difference would be the daylight hours. We go from (here where I live) almost 24hour sunlight (it never does get dark) on June 21, and then it goes down to about 5 hours of sunlight on Dec 21. Winters here start about mid Oct (first snow) and stays until about end of April. Summers are what we live for up here doesn't get too hot and you can be up and doing things at midnight in broad daylight.

For one thing, you prob look south to see the northern lights,at times i even do that up where i am at.
Secondly, i think all Ak citizen get an royalty pay on the oil leaving the state!

No I still look North (most of the time) but I get a crick in my neck from looking pretty much straight up. Ya know Simon I'm probably not much further North than you are.
And yes we get the Permanent Fund check. The only reason we still have it is politicans are scared to touch it political suicide. They talk about it once in awhile but public opinion shuts them up pretty fast.

Recalculating... still a chance. Besides I'd like to see it make some more rounds.
That would be great. If it would save some $$, you could send it to someone on the route in the lower 48, AK can pick it up on the way through and get signatures along the route both directions and then ship it back at the end of the trip.

Yeah, that's a big "can." I'll post up a shot of it from a while back. I'm sure it is almost completely black from signatures by now.
