What does everyone recommend for a laptop? I know that i don't really want an Apple product (lack of products available/compatible)

I would need it for the Microsoft Office Suite for school and business, and enough space so i can have programs for the 6.5L diesel.

I want it to be affordable, VERY reliable, and as long as it decent space and Office suite, that is about it. I would prefer to have good battery life, and ability to play DVDs.

I am thinking of starting my own business and i need a computer to keep accounts organized, and a laptop for mechanical work on the 6.5L

My budget is between $1K-$1.5K, prefer to stay at $1K and below.

What does everyone reccomed for a laptop?

I would also like wireless internet, and possibly a port for those "connectivity" cards that allow anywhere internet access (am i descrbing it right?)

Check out newegg.com I know they were one of the Online Sites listed for having the best Holiday Deals on Laptops.

I have asked around at school, and the response has generally been get an HP laptop, Dell Desktop. How has HPs held up as far as running 6.5L diesel software?

Toshiba would be the one to go with. And if you visit TigerDirect.com, you will find a kickass deal on numerous ones. I can help you find one if you tell me what your looking for, how you use it, and how much you plan on storing.

I just bought a toshiba from best buy....it has 3gb or ram....250gb hard drive....dual 2.2mgh processors....a 17" screen and a full keyboard complete with the number pad...I bought the 3 year warranty with it complete with accidental damage coverage...which means they will replace my computer even if it falls down a flight of stairs (i have a funny feeling that may happen on day 360 of year 3) great machine for surfing the web...running office and all that kind of stuff....it does not have a huge graphics card which will only be an issue if you want to play high end video games with it.....base price was 549...i think the warranty was another 250ish...well worth it though imo....

here it is...still on sale

Video games are for PS3 and X-Box, so just need it to play DVDs well, and have plenty of space for Diesel software.

My roomate has not been pleased w/ his toshiba, but my friend just got a new one at beginning of semester, and it is doing fine, and looking at his car, none of his stuff gets the best of care.

I think it will be an HP or Toshiba.

Probably not related, but i have a Toshiba thumb/ flash. jump (whatever it is) drive 2G, and it has performed flawlessly for about a year now.

I have had mostly Dells but my new one is a HP. It is loaded with all option includubf Blue Ray, I like some of the features it has but I like Dell better over all.

Just ordered my second Dell Vostro. This one is the 1510. I love my Vostro. No problems and runs as fast as any others. You can usually configure the dells cheaper than the others because they are custom ordered. Here is what I just ordered
