Rebuilding a 141

Is it, or is it not, recommended to use Moly Lube (or anything else containing moly disulfide) on bearing surfaces (rod and main bearings, etc)?

Or is it just for points of contact for hard-part to hard-part contact (cam surface w/ lifters)?

Was just wondering if that type of product could be used for all aspects of an engine build rather than having a moly product for the cam and lifters, and assembly lube for everything else?

I've used plain ol engine oil before. Just prime the oil system right before first start. PRIME THE OIL SYSTEM....

Roller lifters just need oil on their needles, that's all.

I've use nothing BUT oil in the cylinder walls.
 
Any conventional diesel oil. It has been a popular choice to avoid synthetics for break in.. On the flip side of that coin, some OEMs use syn for Factory Fill. So... :dunno:

You cannot go wrong with what Sctrailrider recommended for assembly lube.

My fav is Lubriplate 105. It's been good to me, anyway.
 
only problem with those assy greases is that if you use too much it will plug oil galleries and actually starve the engine for oil during start up
 
I guess you missed the part about too much. I've seen people pack oilpumps full of it when they assemble it. I was meant as a caution not a don't use
 
Good day all

we finished installing a Ted's truck long block in a customer truck yesterday.

The engine we received was as new. We had to swap oil pan so we checked mains at the same time : absolutely no cracks, we swap the valve covers too, and it shows a like new
rockers bank. Even the retainers are white (not crappy yellow) like new.

I and the mechanic had the feeling this engine was just built, run for few hours then stored :thumbsup:

It does fire right away, it even succeed starting easely on one cylinder bank only (passenger side) as we were bleeding injection system
with driver side glow plugs removed.

After 1st start and once injection pump timed, the engine runs very smooth, starts at 1st crank, and I can just say : WOW! Damn, this beast is strong!

I'm very happy about this engine. To me, that's the deal of the year. If any of my customer now ask for a reman or even new engine, I will tell them
to buy one of these Ted's long block.


To be honest, I'm now trying to resell my short block to have the money to buy one for myself ;) I want one!
 
Well, I think we can close this thread. The 599 block is sold. A guy need it more than me, and myself, I haven't got time enough for a rebuild at the moment.

The good new id that I sold this short block a good price, and I have now enough $$ to buy a Ted's long block :D

I want to thank you all for all the replies you sent, even to my (some) dumbass questions ;)

By the time I order the engine and it comes to my location by ship, and before I can take free time to mount it, it will be probably around march next year. Hope
my old engine will keep running till this date :rolleyes5:

BTW, if some of you knows the part number for a High volume/high pression oil pump, or a High volume/standard pression one (at least this one is stock on Humvee?), please let me know.

I've got a 141 sitting on the floor... I guess I'll have to build mine and post it up!
