Well, my 599 short block (see post # 6) has arrived yesterday.
Haven't got the time to well inspect it, I just had a look at it, and it seems I made a good deal.
I will confirm upon deeper inspection, but it seems the pistons are almost new, no cracks in the mains, nor in the block.
Was it rebuilt? I bet I can't know except measuring cylinder bore, stock 103mm (4.06inch) First oversize is .25mm (thanks 3500GMC).
I have to find a micrometer for that, and fix if it an oversize one or not.
This week-end I will start parting an old engine to gather oil pan, valve covers, heads... and I will start dumb questins such as:
- is there a top and bottom on valve springs or it doesn't matter?
- I have received brand new push rods with one copper colored end : does this end goes to rocker or lifters? (rockers IIRC)
- and some more...
Please bare with me : I want this engine to be well built, and so to become a trouble free one. My goal is to "set it and forget it"
and this can be useful for "newbies"
