Quicker Turbo

What should I look at for a replacement turbo that will spool up quicker. I am not looking for more PSI but would like things to take off a little faster.

There's a few companys out there that will mod your current turbo or simply send yours in for a core. A good option would be Brayen's turbos at Fleece Performance.

I'll see if I can't get him over here...:)
 
twins,... or a vvt. maybe something with a little smaller turbine... most likely wont gain much out of it though.... i'll leave the rest off as its speculation. let the turbo experts take over... :D
 
Not sure which generation engine you are running, but Brayden hasn't finished the LB7 Cheetahs yet.:doh:
 
Stay away from the Variable Turbos that Gm uses (Garrett), that turbo spools slower than molasses in january. Even though they are supposed to spool quicker.

Best bet is to find a Ball Bearing turbo. IMO the best BB turbos are the Turbonetics Ceramic Ball Bearing turbos. But they can be expensive as is every other BB turbo.

Your best bet is to just go with a bigger one while your at it. You may not think you need it down the road but later on Im sure youll want it.

My question is why do you want faster spool but no more boost?? The stock LB7 turbo spools pretty darn quick. Granted you cant mash it from idle and expect it to shoot up instantly but lets be realistic no turbo will do that.


For a cheap quick spooling turbo BDs Supermax spools quick and is cheap.

MPI twins are also and option, they are about $4500 and utilize your stock turbo and a BIG turbo. Theyll give you PLENTY of boost.

Like I said, just go with a big one, youll thank yourself in the end.
 
I believe the work on the truck is done. A bigger turbo would mean head studs and other motor work. If I won't be able to get a turbo to spool up faster than what I have I will probabaly leave it alone. It is running about 32psi right now and I didn't think the motor would put up with much more than that with out blowing head gaskets.

Actually they will tolerate 45psi just fine many gys even say 50. But over that they need some studs. Which are only $6-700. So its not too bad of an investment.

The BD supermax is a smaller turbo that supposed to spool up pretty quick. its not too much bigger than the stocker either so it would be a good fit for your application.

Best part is, the entire kit is under $2,500

Otherwise you could also go with the smaller Garrett from PPE. Little more money but it is a ball bearing turbo so it will spool pretty quick.
