Probably time for injectors and glows. Guidance requested.

Here's my set up. I have searched this forum, founds lots out there, but thought it would be nice to get current info/thoughts.

97 air filter
LP wired through relay
Pinnacle Exhaust
Remote FSD in bumper
Transgo HD2 shift kit
pyro/boost/trans gauges

Ordered yesterday: KOJO chip, feed the beast fittings, new PMD harness extension (old chinese extension died after 2 years).

Currently have 9g and stock injectors with almost 150K miles and burn good ol #2 diesel. Towing not routine, but do occasionally pul 7000#. Do not want to race 1/4 mile or top end. Reliability, extra power when needed, and mileage are my goals.

Which glow plugs, and why?
Which injectors, and why?

Thanks in advance.

I mentioned it on the phone, but I love the standard injectors that Bill Heath sells. Great products and service from him.

I also trust his opinion on the Bosch Duraterm GPs. They tested a bunch of glows in house. The Bosch lasted the longest and burned almost the hottest.

Thanks for the business Steve!

Yes sir- already scoped out some prices on those. Seeing if there is any concensus out there!

PS: your customer service rocks! Love my rattlestops to death. Cant wait for my KOJO!

Any new injectors you buy should be pop tested and balanced. Opening pressures can vary by over 500psi. It doesn't matter who you buy them from as far as the pop pressures. Good rebuilt injectors will be set closer than new ones.

I think it's fair to say that this man knows about 6.5 diesels.

I would also say thanks for the cable order  its on its way.

As far as GPs just don't get WAPs I think they are under the name Dorman also?? Mine and several other members have had swollen GP tips.

Running 60g GP's now.

A bunch of us have used Rockauto's injectors with no issues yet. Must be 10 of us. They were about 40 bux a piece there last I checked, get 8 of them, a install kit from cheapest source.

Getting them set is ideal. It also tests them which is a plus.

Heaths are good, but they aren't claimed to be matched, so I don't know what makes them any different?? Anyone know?

Burning Oil- my bad; have not forgotten you! And I will add the shipping was as near instantaneous as I've seen. I cannot wait to get it. Your diagnosis saved me much grief!

Thanks for the comments folks. Probably gonna get something soon. Trying to get my rig reliable enough to drive anywhere, worry free. Hahaha... but you get my drift.

I've had 2 year run, and i just passed a year without incedent. Do all the small things, and these trucks last a long time and are very reliable. It just takes a bit for you to let your guard down and aknowledge. :)

Matt- Over the past 2 years, I have added a FSD remote with new FSD, new FSU, LP relay, all new hoses (and I mean every last one), clamps, thermostat, water pump, coolant res cap, radiator flushed and pressure tested, turbo master, replaced all battery cables (starter too), new batts, trans kit and filter, polished the headlights, etc etc etc. My hopes are that after glows and injectors I can close my wallet and get hours of my life back and drive for a few 10-20k miles before it needs something else besides oil changes.

It gets overwhelming at times keeping up on the older beasts... Lets hope your payout is coming soon.....

New truck payment isn't much fun either...

Hang in there Tiger! One day will turn into a month into longer ...

Believe ME. I understand. I had a tough spring last year, replacing all sorts of things... some needed, some PM, some mis-diagnosis.....

I guess I don't trust my rebuilt injectors. However they pop within 200 PSI after 15K. Made a world of difference in how well the truck ran.

So have a injection shop set the pop pressures on whatever you decide.

60G's - why bother changing the GP's at all if you are putting those in. I had most of the plug missing after 15K on them. There are better plugs out there.

Have not used the Duraterm plugs myself but heard good things.

Having the injectors all matched to the same POP is a great thing for sure.

I had a local Stanadyne shop rebuild my injectors when I did DaHooooley.

Had the Pop set to 2000 PSI
The thing runs sooooo smooth.

Having the pops all over the map is a bad thing. This causes cylinder to cylinder timing variations and IMHO can cause more bad vibes in the engine that it simply does not need.

Good fresh injectors and glow plugs is a great way to get power and good starting characteristics back. Mileage should come back too. (if there was an issue)

Im using 60g's They have been doing their job so far. Much better than the WAP's I pulled out. They go by Dorman and Wellman name also.
What problem/s did you have?

After 15K in my engine I removed what was left of 4-5 of the plugs. 1 had the metal coating burned off. The other bad ones were half missing.

Just plain gone.

The rest were fine. Including 1 in the hole the piston failed in. All I can figure is they failed when I tested the BS "self regulating" rumor that is going around on here when my lift pump failed.

At least they did not get impacted in the pistons like the 6.2 plugs did to me in 1990. So maybe an improvement.

I don't remember the start of this thread, but if you had bad injectors they could prematurely wreck glows.

No, injectors were good. Engine went through a shock when the defective radiator cap popped off when the engine was somewhere over 215 ECT, shock cooled the block, and scuffed the #1 piston that within 7K miles cracked and burned through.

Attempts were made to start the engine after using the "self regulating" feature of longer manual glow plug times when the lift pump failed and many miles later after the piston failed.

There could have been other problems with the engine or IP. Including working it very hard. Maybe I am the only one who had had them fail.
