my 05 duramax is throwing a code po299. I have found this is low boost and has something to do with the vein position sensor. or the maf sensor. I have cleaned the maf sensor and still threw the code. does anybody know if I can clean the vein position sensor or should I just replace it. and if I replae it can I purchase the sensor aftermarket. Any help is appreciated.

I know there have been some discussions on the vane position sensor on LBZs previously from a search I just did so if you were to search "vane sensor" in the Duramax forum, you might find some helpful reading there. I'm not sure how they would apply to an LLY if that's what you have but it's likely close. As Bud said, give us a rundown on your truck (fill out your signature) to help us help you.

Po229

Thank you very much for your responses. I programed the truck with a hyperteck 3 programmer and put a new mbrp exhaust eliminating the cat. The truck threw the po299 code when I had the programmer on level three prior to the exhaust. Also when plowwing this winter I bent my factory pipe and that is why I put on the mbrp exhaust. My air filter also was very dirty. I cleaned the maf sensor and put in new air filter. I am thinking the next step is the vein sensor.

You might try clearing the code and going back to the stock tune before you do anything else. See if that makes a difference. Tuners have been known to malfunction occasionally.

Also, check your air intake and make sure that everything is snug, with no leaks.

That 0299 is an underboost code, and could be caused by the MAF sensor, the EGR popping open (or being crudded up), and/or a leak in the air intake.

i did put the truck back to stock and it still threw the po299. I am going to bring the truck to the dealer on Tuesday. Does anyone know if you can clean the vein sensor or is it something that just gets replaced.
