As you know, I have a 97 k3500 dually with most all the goodies. It is running strong and holding up pretty well considering it's a plowtruck. I am hoping it will last forever.
I am curious though, I've always got my eyes open for a diesel Sub, and I may have found one with the typical "won't run needs an injector pump" diagnosis. Pretty short money, if someone else doesn't snap it up first. I have a spare pmd and a spare IP, so I could probably resurrect it, as long as the motors good. Any thoughts on how to tell if a non-running motor is still good? I know theres no guarantees, but if it turns over and theres nothing sticking through the side of the block, what else could I look for? Metal on the dipstick would be obviously one thing, oil in the water or vice versa. Anything else?
Anyway, to get back to my original question, if someday, God forbid, my trusty steed has a heart attack or gets totalled again, how much of my goodies will work on the Sub? The one I'm looking at is the same year, I think it's got to have the same trans too. I know the ATT will work, how about the downpipe and my awesome sounding Diamondeye system? I know it wouldn't be an exact fit but if I could make it work with some cutting and shortening.. The big question would be the computer, my Kojo tune is for the same year F truck, is a Sub 2500 F or S? Also my tune was made for 4.10 and 33s, Sub is probably 3.42 or 3.73. I'd take the pmd cooler and my gauges, but the airbags would likely go to my other 1 ton. Or maybe not, I don't know.
Anyway, just thinking. If I did get the Sub and got it reliable for the wife to drive, then down the road if the dually ever dies, be nice to get the Sub going as good as my dually does.
