I was reading about an article where a diesel mag changed just the fan and shroud to an LBZ and got better cooling results from doing so. Anyone know if the fan clutch would also have to be changed?

Anyone done this?

"Owners of an LLY can upgrade the cooling system of their vehicles by installing the radiator and fan along with the fan shroud from an LBZ."

That article looks to me like it was written by a powerstroke enthusiast. Pretty sure you have to make some core support changes to use the LBZ radiator in an LLY as it is a good bit taller. Then you run into the issue that the LBZ uses a larger lower radiator hose with a quick connect, so you would also have to change the water pump to use the LBZ lower hose. It has also been determined that blocking or even eliminating the EGR cooler hasn't shown any real drops in engine temps while towing. The restrictive stock LLY intake and airbox design have been proven as a cause of overheating. Engine tuning also plays a big role in it. Many have also theorized that some LLY head castings have thin spots which leads to overheating. Some overheaters have had another set of heads put on and never experienced overheating again. And oil temps have also been linked to overheating. And they might also want to correct the block info as the block remained largely the same until 2011. It wasn't improved in 06, but for the LML they went to the stronger casting.
