GM owns Opel which makes a lot of small cars that have a Diesel Engine. They make some nice looking cars. Why can we not have them in the USA? Here is a link;

I used to have a I think a '72 or 74 opel record with a P4 perkins diesel. I had a couple mercedes too,all diesels,first one was a '58 4 banger. Back in europe diesels where very common for years allready before North America cought on.
 
I cant get either link to work but I dont think I want a diesel car. My trucks cost to much to up keep now, where my grand am could get a create long block for well under 2000. Get hardly get a IP for that for a diesel.. just my .o2 :)
 
in 2008 every second car that left a dealer lot was a diesel in Europe.
in the US it was 2%. my last car in germany was a VW Lupo TDI and i can attest that this really would have been the way of the future and the only thing that makes sense. just my 2 cents.
