I think the o ring is leaking here. for years it would loosen up and i just cranked it clockwise to tighten it. Now it's very tight and there is a leak in that area... or is it the rear main from overfilling a bit? how do you get it off and get the new o ring. again it's intermittant this oil leak like my starter problem. also the truck surges and runs strong...no dog here when it seems to have advance or take fuel??? again intermmitant.

Just unscrew the bolt, adapter will fall off in your hands. Make sure to have new orings ready.

The center bolt should turn in the adapter.

Thanks, yeah i finally got a picture from the dealer, my shop manual didn't have one...odd and the bolt may be part of the housing i'm guessing as i used to push on the filter cockwise to tighten it. i seem to also be going through platic drain plug washers?
