Okay guy's I have been eying the lube specialist oil cooler but at about $250 shipped it is getting a little pricing for me trying to get the truck ready for a HELL of a Thanksgiving trip. I went into the local Kragen (CSK) and thought I would ask them if they had a replacement oil cooler. They had one for $54. It was a retro fit. It said that the stock fitting had to be removed and the new brass fitting w/ a barb had to be screwed in and then you connect it w/ a rubber hose and a clamp. Just wondering what you all think. Would it get too hot down there?

Also I found the brass 90 degree fittings that Lube specialists uses so I could get a pair of those and find some braided lines somewhere. I don't know how easy that would be however.

Thanks!

Go to Summit Racing, B&M makes a direct replacement cooler with NPT threads. I used -8N fittings and stainless braided hose from them that mirrors the Lubespecialists kit and the whole thing was about $170.00

I may still have the invoice with all of the part numbers, I will look tonight.

I went looking there and couldn't find it. Do you have the P/n?

I may have missed something but, just to replace the cooler on my 94, I disconnected the quick connects, unscrewed the quick connect adapters from the old cooler and installed them with new teflon tape in the new cooler, connected hoses and done. Mine is 3/8 but I believe 96 and up are 1/2 inch on the cooler.

Summit p/n

Cooler BMM 70266 = direct replacement ( screw holes and everything) with 1/2 NPT instead of o-ring

SUM230810 = 10 ft -8N stainless braided

SUM 220890 = -8N swivel ends ( reusable)

SUM 220847 = -8N to 1/2 NPT adapter

I used the straight -8N to NPT adapters and then used 2 - 90* and 2 - 45* plumbing fittings because the AN angle fittings get too expensive.

docray

The stock 94 cooler has an o-ring seal fitting with straight threads which usually pulls the threads out when you unscrew it. Sounds like yours was changed to something else.

What's wrong with your oil cooler? IMHO you should do the lines at the same time. More often then not, the lines leak, not the cooler. Braided lines are a heck of a lot easier to work with than the pre-bent factory replacements, but then you need to upgrade the cooler. Just a thought.

I agree... replace it all. Either with Greg's kit or a DIY, but do it all at once!

FYI

if you choose to do the Summit parts route, you will need plenty of wire ties and clamps to keep the braided hoses from rubbing on everything!

Okay I am getting ready to make the purchase and I want to make sure I get the right size fittings. I know MBBOB posted the p/n's (thanks), however I noticed his is a 94 and mine is a 99. I believe the size that screws into the block on the 97-99's are larger. Anyone have the exact size?

Thanks!
