Hey now, I was only going by the written word in the FSM....:dunno:

Maybe the 97 printing was in error and it was corrected in subsequent prints.

Like I mentioned, wouldn't be the first time an official manual was wrong.....):h

What about offset being crank offset?

Any opinion on that one?

I have a question for those that use AE and Carcode.

Do I understand that Carcode does do time set and you can command TDCO and you can stop the learn program or at least it will time itself out, or no

Does AE do Time Set or Command TDCO? Or just display it and have to do KOKO relearn?

I want to get it for other gasser vehicles right now, but want to be able to use it if I get an OBD2 6.5. carcode good for this or might as well just get AE?

Car Code does command TDCO and appears to have the capability to do timeset. There is no KOKO relearn necessary with it. I cannot speak for AE as I have never used it. Does this answer your question, Buddy?
 
Thanks Quint, the only other question on carcode is if the TDCO learn times out itself after like 20 seconds, because I dont like the idea of turning the truck off to set the value, and I dont mind not getting exactly -1.94.

If AE doesnt do these then I guess I will go with Carcode, because I like the time set feature.
 
I've just "disabled" the TDCO/time set procedure (you enable and disable the enhanced tests in car code) when car code has hit the value I'm looking for and the engine has returned to normal running.

All done from inside the software.

Well, car code doesn't "hit" the value, the PCM does. It just initiates the command and displays the stored value.

I've also had car code initiate TDCO and Time set before the temp was above 160. Kinda odd as all I've read says this shouldn't happen...
 
Thanks, I had got the impression that the disable did not work while performing the learn. Compared to GMTDScanTech on my OBD1 you can command the learn on, then off at any time when you see the value you want stored. But as long as it completes the learn at some point if you disable it I'm good with that.
 
I think the Tech 2 works that way, these software based PC scanners can do anything though. Stanadynes intent was most likely that the IP itself was warm and all of the tolerances where they will be operating.

13. Slightly (1mm equals 2 degrees) rotate the injection pump (use tool J 29872) and tighten injection pump flange nuts. Rotate pump toward drivers side; a positive (+) number, rotate toward passenger side (1 mm equals 2 degrees) in order to achieve a negative (-) number

The TDCO procedure has been corrected and reads: (pg 6-2721, #13)
"IMPORTANT: In order to achieve a negative (-) TDC Offset number rotate the pump towards the drivers side of the vehicle."

Guys,

As an absolute beginner can someone advise me how to use the carCode software ?

I need to clear codes with it and then do a TDCO on a new IP for a 98 Suburban.

I have followed through the PDF - but can not work out what the radio dial is meant to do nor the up and down arrows in the enhanced screen ?

OK thanks - that makes me feel better.

How do i then tell the PCM to do a TDCO learn through the software ? Is it just a matter of hitting the enable button in the enhanced data screen ? Does anyone know why there are two disable buttons ? and what they do ?

been quite awhile since I played around with it ,but if memory serves to initiate a relearn you highlight the tdco learn in the dropdown menu and either double click or hit enable. I usually hit enable several times to see all the diff offsets available. the disable at least on one of the buttons changes the drop down back to where it was, but I turn off the ign when I get the TDCO I want
 
Car Code does tire to brake size calibration in ABS controller which will correct a bad brake feel after going to larger diameter tires by the % of tire size change.

If ABS controller is not re-calibrated you may think you need to spend big for brake upgrades you really don't need with the exception of SS braided lines IMHO.
