I love my new truck, it has everything I want, save a few very fixable problems, but one mystery. I have a parasitic drain, and when driving on the highway, if I turn my left blinker on the transmission kicks down. If I am using Cruise Control it comes out of CC , this will also happen if I hit a big enough bump. The OD OFF light does not illuminate, however, so I don't think there is a cross over between the two. The engine and tranny were swapped for new ones recently. I need to drive this truck 2200 miles to VA in about 15 days. Cruise control would be a nice feature. The truck runs like a champ, cold starts are a little rough AKA: I turn the key on and wait three seperate times before starting and it still takes a little cranking before she starts, but when warm she has no hesitation. the drivers door doesn't open from the inside, the rear window "bedside" rolls down, but not so much back up. There ain't nothin wrong with the radio.:agreed: I am pretty sure I got a downright good deal on her. RWD with a crew cab, longbed, non-dually. I need it to haul about 7,000 lbs across country. Any help/advice would be awesome.

Fix the damn glow system! lol Seriously they start ok with good glows, wires, and regulators. Plug it in otherwise. They say the IP AND INJECTORS are shot by 100K on these rigs.

Other than that I would be checking harnesses for cross over/shorts in wires or shorted pins in the connectors and fuses.

Install BERU glow plugs from AUTOZONE is the general consensus on the FORD boards about them. DO NOT run AUTOLITES as they are NOT self regulating are are known to swell and break and go through your engine. I would avoid the push button as most FORD glow plugs aren't self regulating which will cause them to swell and break off if you go just a second to long for them. Also this truck uses 6 volt, not 12 volt glow plugs stock. The glow plug module has a large wavy resistor on it which steps the voltage down. And when a glow plug goes out it throws off teh resistance which causes the glows to run longer and take out the rest of the glow plugs. If you do go to a push button system, put in a FORD starter solonoid and swap in a set of AC 60G glow plugs. For the cruise and other issues, sounds to me like a ground wire was left off during the engine swap. Check the engine to body grounds really closely, and make sure the grounds are hooked up to clean surfaces.

As for hauling 7,000 lbs cross country, if it isn't a turbo model you'll be alright if your not in a hurry(and stay down at sea level). My uncle has the same truck but in a dually, and he had 2,000 miles on it when he added a BANKS turbo to it because it was a complete dog towing 5500 pounds at altitude.

well, I swapped the batteries for a matched set of Hawker AGM's @ ~1200 cca apiece, found the problem with the charging system at least.

my pass. rear blinker and brake light doesn't work, so I'm currently on a wild goose chase through wiring to figure out why.
I have three connectors that go nowhere two are right next to the IP and the other is on the fuel filter housing, can't find anything that they should connect to, and my coolant and battery gauges do not work.

here are some pics of the battery tray modification for the new batteries "they're big" and the batteries

I added some cavitation protection to the coolant, and I want to check the condition of the trans. fluid but I can't find the damn dipstick, this originally had the banks option from the factory if that helps. how do I hook that vacuum line back up "next to the climate fan assy."

I changed the cab rear light, fixed the cruise control issue. still have no clue about the rear pass lights, hooked up the multimeter, and got nothing, wires are intact, am going to have to pull it out tomorrow.

I now have a new'er 10 ply tire as a spare, and I have a feeling that the grounds are the issue. the hazards work in the front but not in the back, and the rear brakes, and flashers work only on the driver side rear, but not the pass. weird!

Ok, so I have an impulse trailer brake controller installed, and I checked the wiring, and it all appears connected correctly. I also removed the rear diff sensor and checked it as well, still has a very strong magnetic field, but no crud on it. I also checked the ground point in the rear of the truck, there are two thik wires connected and nothing else, there is a connector there with two cut lines. I'll get some pics. I looked under the dash and there appeared to be a yellow wire for the impulse controller dangling there "ground maybe? even connected to a good ground lights still don't work. Everything in the front works, but I have nothing in the rear, no backup, no flashers, no turn signals, no brake, just nothing. if the realy was bad then the fron't wouldn't work, checked the fuses already, all good there. changed the rear outside cab bulb, and license bulbs but still nothing, cab light works, but lic. plate lights do not. HELP PLEASE!
