Well I bit the bullet and ordered my EFI Live from Guy (Trippin) with Tony's tow tune...

What to keep on the other side of the DS2p switch (until I get a transmission) is what I'll be discussing...

looking forward to hearing everyones opinions...

not sure if you'll want anything else. tony's tunes run great and the mild manners from the tow tune will make you smile. if you def want the dsp i'd personally upgrade to the dsp5, still have to access the ecm either way, but come time for your trans you wont be doing the swap, for more tunes. i had the dsp 2 and never used it because i always planned on doing the dsp5. but now that it is in i rarely use the dam thing. it stays on big always and it is only on the tow tune once or twice. it is nice to not have to reflash each time though. guy has the switches in stock. currently i have my big tune, the mileage tune, tow tune and a nice smokey tune to mess with while revving the thing.

now to your alternate tune if you so choose the dsp2, i'd do the cit1991 milage tune from the dp if you still can get it. or see if guy has a nice mileage tune. you wont want to have a big tune there without a trans imo, because you will ruin it much quicker and be "forced" to spend the coin:D. but it is fun. good luck with the decision. i feel for ya.

I still havent put my DSP2 in either.

Even though I dont have a stock tranny anymore, I am considering putting in a drag tune and a regular 90 HP in the other slot.

I haven't put my dsp5 in yet. I'm gonna try and make my own switch that I can just use a little tact switch to cycle through the tunes. And have those mini leds in the dash to indicate which tune it's set on. From what I've figured out before, I'm gonna go down to the electronics surplus store and see if I can get a 4017 semiconductor. It has 10 outputs 0-9 but I can put #5 to a reset so that it will start all over again. I just click the button until I get to the tune I want and I'll have no big bulky switch. Just a semiconductor, some transistors, leds and a tact switch. If I get this figured out maybe I'll pass it on or build a few extras.

sounds cool...let me know...

I should have told guy to send me a DSP5 switch......I would like to had put a slow tune in it should someone steal my truck...max speed 10 mph.....dang

I'm not sure if the ford tunes are compatible with the gm operating systems.

Okay Stacks...continuing our discussion here so as not to hijack BB's thread...

Right now I have a very mild tow tune from Guy...waiting to see if he is gonna update it it...as it down shifts going up highway overpasses, and did not do this with the edge(Lvl 2) and My truck is an 01 but he switched me to an 02 operating system...(not to mention the speedo is now way off)

1st: I would imagine that the second tune also has to be an 02 operating system and not my stock 01 save

2nd: how hard is it to take someone else's free tune and try and add my Vin and stuff to the tune to make it work for my truck...

3rd:How hard is it to make a dsp2 file to load...do they load separately or does it have to be one file?

I'm sure I'll have more ??'s

spent the better part of an hour yesterday getting the speedometer correct...after two loads I realized the original tow tune from Guy had it set to 3.72 gears so I corrected that and went from there...the calculator in EFI is not that great...it told me 95074vlue for 265's and after gradual changes I ended up at 99500 as the final value... stock 245's value was only 101000...

now to see if I can get him to do something about this down shifting up overpasses...It didn't do that with the edge...I'm wondering if the tow tune eliminated the factory calibrations that GM had to stop the down shifting... I'm thinking it is either that or not enough power in the tune... I love how smooth it is but probably needs to be changed in some way... but I sure wouldn't know where to begin...

sorry, did not see this the other day,
1: the dsp tune is just changes made to the base tune under the dsp tables in it. not a complete tune.
2: never tried to do that. if i get a tune and it is the same os i just leave it and flash it. somethings may be differant like tank size and tires, but if i like it i just run a script and mate it to my stock tune and all is well.
3: the dsp tune is all inclusive. it is the main tune plus the dsp calibration tables. they load all with the main tune. your have to perform a full reflash to change the ecm os on the first one but after that it is simple partial flashes like before. even if you only change the dsp tables.

Stacks, I'm not sure, but isn't there pins (hardware related stuff) To make his truck work w/ DSP2? I'm just askin.

Hey Pepp! Did you reset the TAPS when you uploaded Trippin's tune? I'm not saying 100% that's it, but, it's worth a shot.
If I remember Trippin's tune right it had it more 'in the pedal' if ya know what i mean. It felt a tad better than stock normal driving, but, you had to PUT IT TO THE FLOOR to wake up the beast :auto:
I'm kind of wondering if that's what you're experiencing, and then when you put it to the floor the tranny's thinking "Downshift!".

no...I'm just crusin' at 75 hit an overpass...instead of lugging up the overpass/hill and powering more as gradual pedal increases...it downshifts...

and here's an question...

How do I eliminate the registration nag that pops up every time I don't have the tool hooked up?

it says all I have to do is register it...I've registered it with and without the cable and it's still a no go when I start the tun tool without the v2 hooked up...it's a real PIA...

I started with a fresh new install of my computer's everything, and now that you say it, mine does the same thing... grrr

forum.efilive.com is a helpful place for questions like that, I'm going to check it out also.

Was your speedo correct when it was doing that? I'm just wondering if the input sensor said one thing, and the load sensor from your pedal said another... Not sure though.
