This morning before daylight I stopped and put the steering wheel up
to get out, and the headlights went off, lowered it and they came back on.
This is a Bad Thing :frown5:
(It's only the headlights, everything else is on.
Obviously I have a broken or nearly broken wire, or bad plug in connection,
but what wire would be in the steering column for the headlights?
A little more history: When I was wiring the light for my boost gauge, I
found some burnt wires (I mean BURNT!) at the headlight switch - I cut
out the most badly burned ones, and spliced some good wires in their place.
I assumed that the DRLs may have caused it, since I had no issues with the
wires being burnt, and had pulled the DRL fuse years ago. No wiring diagram,
never found out what the burnt up wire was for. But it was repaired also.

I have seen this situation before, you prob have a break in the wires running trough the tilt steering knuckle if the wire bundle is a little tight there. The constant flexing of the wires if you use the tilt function often will/could eventually cause one to break, often inside the insulation.
Same situation can happen in the door hinge wiring harness.

This is even more embarrassing: while looking at the steering wheel today,
I realized I don't have an airbag! Pulled off the cover, and it's just a horn
module. I knew the 2500s weren't required to have them on the pass. side,
but I always assumed the drivers side had it - thought it was legally required.
I had a 1997 1/2 ton, it had them, cause they saved me when the guy hit
me head on five years ago. Even with the airbag, had a big blue bruise across
my chest and abdomen from the seatbelt - use em, guys, they'll save you.
Now that I know I don't have airbags, I'll be more careful :D
