Hola everyone

I got my new PMD installed today on the 1500 (thanks Leroy) the truck started right up, I cleared previous codes (see my other thread) and went for a test drive, the truck runs fine and all but now theres a noise coming from the engine bay at WOT that can be described as a gasoline powered vehicle rattling (when gas ignites from compression rather than spark due to low octane fuel) any ideas as to what might be causing this? got home from the test drive, pulled codes again and Im getting 32 and 33, I havent been able to clean the grounds yet cause I was out of town but will eventually get around to it.
thanks for any and all help

Those are the EGR codes, I would block it off with a plate under the EGR tower. There are threads on here with detailed instructions.

any ideas as to what the rattling at WOT might be?
I dont care much about the EGR, I'll probably just swap the intake for a non EGR one in the future ($)

Not sure but I think it's the egr choking your engine, maybe the egr is chattering.

Just unplug the EGR on top of the intake and plug the line coming from the solenoids with a golf tee or something. Clear codes and see if they come back. Although either way you could have a problem. If codes were caused by the vacuum system not working right you might need to fix that. As sometimes that could cause boost solenoid to go to 100% duty cycle, and you will get lots of boost. Or was it setting codes because EGR diaphram is broke and there was too much vacuum. In which case you would have an exhaust leak on top of your intake to cause your noise. So you'll need to plug the EGR tower inside the lower intake. I recommend just getting an intake from an "F" engine and putting it on the enigne to totally delete all that EGR crap.

Got up this morning and plugged both that goes into the EGR and the EGR itself since I didnt remember which one I was supposed to, cleared codes and test drove. Now it starts rattling at about 1/3 throttle lots of black smoke, little power and as I keep on pushing the pedal the smoke begins to turn gray/whiteish and the rattling begins to dissapear close to WOT. got home and pulled codes again, 33 and 92. Help!

DTC 33 - EGR Control Pressure/Baro Sensor Circuit High
DTC 91 thru 98 - Cylinder Balance

So the new one is Cylinder Balance code.
It looks like 92 means cylinder no 2.
Is that injector? I know in gasser is usually the spark plugs or cable.

Expert can chime in on what to do?

Well looks like you have a vacuum leak in the lines, which is causing your smoke problem. You need to find the leak and verify the vacuum pump is functioning.

If you dont have a vacuum gauge right now, youll want to get one, because you can find them dual role, vacuum and fuel pump pressure gauge. But you can try putting vacuum straight from the pump to the turbo actuator to see if all your smoke clears and power is restored and focus on the noise. If the turbo still is not working then the vac pump is probably dead.

Go hunting for cracks in that vac line. And replace it with flexible hose.

And pull upper intake plenum off and plug the EGR tower inside the lower plenum, and block off the EGR port. The valve is probably leaking or its leaking between the tower and the upper intake.

Dang, should have gotten one yesterday when I was in TX. How do I know the vac pump is working? and wasnt there a vac pump delete mod? I think I saw that back at the place.

just got under the hood, the vac lines look fairly recent, and followed them to the three little black boxes they plug into (dont know the name of these) started the truck and disconnected the vac lines to check for vacuum at these little boxes but got zero vac at idle (right now I dont have someone to rev it for me while I check.. am I looking at a dead vac pump?

If you are gonna delete the EGR any way, get a turbo master and boost gauge instead of a new pump and delete the vacuum pump altogether. The vacuum pump is only there to run these 2 items any how.

You could see some b4 and after photos in my albumn. The ATT albumn is obviously the "after" as I had to do the chip delete of ejr and wastgate, to install ATT. I'm happy to be rid of the vacumm pump, lines and valves. I did as buddy suggests, replaced with non-egr upper intake. Be carefull when looking for non-ejr upper intake, I found one that did not have the boost sensor feature, must have been an early non-turbo thing?

I'd been thinking about the TM thing but man, they're pricey! sounds like a pump delete and EGR block are the way to go.. is there a writeup for these procedures? also, anyone has a TM they're willing to part with?

When my cross over sprung a leak my vac dropped off, the truck shook and rattled from low boost.

Its important to know which line you checked for vacuum, there is only one that has vacuum. If you had all of them plugged in then you can just pulled the line off the turbo actuator and checked for vacuum there.

Or disconnect the line at the vac pump and check there.

I prefer the vacuum setup if the vac pump is working, most dont understand its advantages, just the disadvantages of the extra parts.

checked for vac directly from the pump, there is vacuum in that line, also theres vacuum at the hose connected to the EGR but still none at the turbo, the rattling is still there but less noticeable.. and it still feels like it needs more power under acceleration..
think a TM will solve this? anyone has one for sale?

Just connect the vacuum pump straight to the vacuum actuator of the tubro. Sounds like your turbo solenoid on the drivers side valve cover has died. See if you get your power back. Then it will probably code a DTC78 for overboost if you keep your foot into acceration for a while (10 sec). You will also still get EGR codes if with no vacuum to those solenoids and the vacuum gauge on the firewall. But the EGR codes wont hurt anything.

connected turbo to vac pump, there seems to be a small improvement in power under acceleration, less black smoke and one big puff of white smoke. getting codes 31 and 92 again.. still rattling.
