We just bought a 2006 TDI and we are very happy with it. I posted a video in the peformance section at TDI club of the new exhaust I made if u wanna check it out. Congrats on your car.

A little feed back for ya all.

I topped it off this morning to verify the mpg 2nd time $3.89 for diesel here.

446 miles
9.1 gal to fill to the lip (still had about 1/2 tank left)
49 mpg :D

Un friggin believable...I should have done this yrs ago :hihi:

Changed out the Timing belt, new water pump, belts, crank pulley & harmonic balancer, cleaned the intake manifold, was nearly plugged.

The timing belt was not in good shape, so this was money & time well spent...we got real lucky here.

Motor seems very happy on it's 1st trip to work today...what a difference it makes to allow them to breath...

My son did all the work, he really is becoming a very good mechanic, though I wish he would have used safety glasses & gloves for this!

congratulations! hope she serves you well for many years.

oh, and, there is a certain club that you need to join...we will welcome you with a Handshake.... :)

What's your son doing with the intake manifold? I recognize the torch, but is that an air hose? I've never seen or heard of this before. (And if he's explaining it, I'm at work, so I don't have the volume turned on)

Yup that's an air hose Forrest. The muk that builds up in the intake is soot from the EGR along with oil vapor from the engine breathers and as ya can see it will burn. So a little heat from the torch & then chase it with air.... VIOLA you have completed the triangle burn baby burn ;)

In the refinery we call it steam de-air de-coking, we use the same principle to remove coke from furnace tubes & such, though at a much larger scale. :agreed:

i am flying to san antonio sunday, hopefully, to pick up an 02 jetta tdi hand shaker. 175K. found it on the tdiclub from a member. had a diesel rabbit a few years ago so i belong to a few vw sites. i am planning to get 50 mpg also. i am waiting approval of the credit union tomorrow.

I had a chance to pick up an MKII Golf TDI a few years back...i seriously regret not getting that car. I had a MKII Jetta Wolfsberg edition at the time. That car was a hoot to drive!
