Not sure where to post this so I stuck it here.

Picked up a new to us 1993 6.2 Vin C 1500 4L60E 4x4 a couple of weeks ago. It was a US Goverment Military Rig. Best we can tell it was used on the flight deck for the Navy down in the Norfolk area. PO bought in 2008 with only 61,201 on the clock!:bigeyes2:! Currently has 112k. Recent tranny rebuild. Straight body, doors shut nice. Nice seat 60/40 bench from a newer truck. Has the cool and rare manual floor vents. The bad. No AC- have a slider from another truck that we will be putting in and with the floor vents as long as you are moving everything will be fine! The PO owner installed a body lift which will be removed. The dash is pretty rough- lots of cracks. The passenger side cab corner is rotten (the only rust we can find on the body). The PO blew a heater hose and proceeded to drive to the parts store with no coolant!:WTF: The head gaskets are shot. Popped a valve cover and there is some rust. When we drained the oil there was coolant/ water in the pan. Gonna drop the oil pan to inspect the bottom end for rust/ corrosion. Then I am gonna remove the heads to inspect from there. If everything checks out then the plan is to put her back together and start driving the ol' girl!

Ida bought 'er too. Rubber floor and crank windows and all.

I like them simple. The power stuff is great until it breaks!

I bet MPGs are around 22-24 to??

That is what we thinking once we remove the body lift and put an airdam back on the front. We are going to run 265 75 r16 rubber. With the 3.42s and the overdrive it will be like 2.73s in a car! 60 should be around 1600 with 75 just under 2000. May not even use 4th gear until we 65 or so!

Spent some time yesterday working on her and it looks like the salt has done a number on the exhaust manifolds. They are rusted solid-looks like we are pulling the whole motor, fortunately we have another set of heads and exhaust manifolds.

WOW! That is a lot of mileage for such a short patch to drive around on!!! :D

BTW, do not count on it ingesting #2 diesel for the first 61K miles, the military is known for using other blends (ex: JP-X) including regional stuff.

What is the new name . . . Larry II? :hihi:

Nice find!
Thanks!

I wonder how many planes that thing has towed around? I threw out Barry as a possible choice... the wife suggested Carl. Waiting to drive it and see what kinda personality it has!
Now that the motor is coming out we are going to use a new reman pump we bought for another project just to be safe.

Looks like a great project! Looking forward to following along.

Thanks. Could take awhile... looks like I will be working this weekend! Hoping not to have to work Sunday but then the garage needs a cleaning and grass needs mowing...

I like what ever its name is that's a nice looking truck always liked that body style. I have a 95 GMC 2 wheel drive with a 6.5 na in it ,it was from Va. and it was a state or county truck has 158K miles on it.

Thanks, we are going to call this one simply Blue. We (my wife & I, since it will be her truck) have started working on it. We have replaced the door panels, added diamond plate bedrail caps, diamond plate tailgate cover, and a diamond plate tool box. My wife also spent a lot of time cleaning the interior of the cab- it was filthy. Hope to pull the motor this weekend and drop Gertie's motor in soon. I too have a 95 ex vdot truck- Gary. They are great reliable trucks!

That's good as long as your wife is having fun working on Blue maybe you wont get in so much trouble when you start bringing new parts home. My 95 must have spent its life on the back roads in Va. because underneath it has a coating of orangeish colored mud everywhere.

Mark

My wife is a car/ truck person like me- we wrench on things together. The problem becomes not when parts come home but whose ride gets the parts!;)
