need help - looking at a 2005 Cummins tomorrow, input required!!!!

sorry to hear you wasted your time ... I had an idea from the get go that thing was dogged in appearance and mechanics...

I hope you at least got a feel for what a 6 speed basically drives like, so maybe that is some consolation for your efforts...

nah do not be, it was a cool ride out there, the little town with it's city square was nice and it was indeed a VERy interesting and intriguing experience driving a 6 speed cummins.

I have yet to decide whether it was a MEH' or I NEED that experiennce.

But i have the feeling that if that guy had cleaned that truck and polished and waxed it at least once since he owned it and fixed some of the obvious things and told me a good number - chances are i would have whipped out some 15 g and i might have called Rich on the way home and gave him my AMEX number for some go fast / turbo whistle goodies.

All your autotrader links were dealers, but I will keep looking.
There must be someone out there that takes care of his stuff.....

at this point the cleanest vehicle i have looked at the last 6 months was that 88 caprice wagon ;-)

Well, at least we got you some ammo to go with before heading out there.

If you find another one you're interested in and need the build sheets, just give me a holler and we'll get you taken care of.

Huh, it must be a dodge 6spd thing...I dont like how my 6spd shifts compared to the older 5spd....it "hangs out their" you kinda gotta find the gears and toe the clutch in just a little not alot to make it shift smooth....and freaken 5th gear grrrrr, for 3 weeks i kept nailing reverse trying to get into 5th gear!!! other than how it shifts I like it..it gives me better towing power if you understand that.....

That's the main reason they went to the G56.

The G56 is much "friendlier" than the NV5600 was.

But the G56 is nearly as strong as the NV5600.

Easiest ways to tell if you have an NV5600 vs a G56 is 1 - The G's reverse is left and down, the NV's reverse is right and up and 2 - the G's case is aluminum and the NV's case is cast iron.

Here's the best thing I can tell you when you're looking at trucks with these two transmissions.

If you going to drive this truck everyday, occassionally tow your 5th wheel, don't plan on putting on the race track or sled pulling, go with the G56. It's a much better daily driver.

If you want to make big power, sled pull, hot shot, etc, go with the 5600. It's a lot stouter than the G56.

here is one that I would consider...low miles private owner...but high priced...needs you to ask your usual detailed questions and get more pics...

Maybe a Duramax would be better, or better yet a 6.6 to replace the 6.5 and keep the Suburban.

do good things come to those who wait ????

again - NO COCKBLOCKING me before i check it out tomorrow.
if i do not want it - you guys get a free PPI ;-)

what do you guys think of this - i know it is not a 6 speed and it does not fit my original budget plans and the guys does not seem impressed by cash (them old dudes get wise :)) it is hard for me to judge the value of this since - read through all the old posts which were very tranny related....

i am going to give up soon and get a deuce and a half -
wonder how that will tow ?

the communication :

Carl,

I am interested in your truck but have some questions:

- has the truck ever been smoked in ?
- why are you selling it ?
- do you have the title in hand ?
- is it a laramie, slt or st trim package ?
- was the truck ever used to transport pets or kids ?
- any accidents / bodywork (bondo etc.) ?
- 100% vehicle history (window sticker, service, maintenance records, repair
receipts etc.) comes with the truck ?
- who did the service on the vehicle ? dealer or independent shop ?
- any dents, dings, scratches or any other issues than what you described -
everything works ?
- has it been modified in any way ?
- which brake controller is installed ?
- how much (in weight) did you tow with it ?
- looks like a big camper, how often did you tow with it ?
- was it just used for towing ?
- how firm are you on the price ?
- do you have any larger pics you can email me ?

please answer asap - have cash in hand.
I am in Columbus, OH.

kind regards

I will try to answer all your concerns about the truck by starting with a comment that the truck is as near perfect in every respect as any you will ever find. It has not been smoked in and has never had a child in it and I could lie to you and say no dogs. We do have a small dog but you will find no evidence of her ever being in the truck. Even the floor mats have never had a foot on them. I keep carpet samples over the floor mats and towels over the carpet samples. I used the truck primarily to tow the 5th wheel, but on occasion would drive it just for the pleasure of driving it. I never used it to haul anything other than things I might need in camping. The reason I'm selling it is that we had a 5th wheel which we just sold and I no longer need the truck. And yes, I have a clear title. The weight of the 5th wheel was 11,000 lbs. The truck is a Ram 3500 Big Horn Edition SLT Quad Cab. The brake controller is a Voyager. I do have the window sticker and records of service. It has only been serviced by an authorized dealer. There are no modifications to the truck. Hope this answers your concerns to your satisfaction.
