Like I said this site and you members had a big influence in my decision to purchase and restore my low mileage truck. I should post pix. Cept you all would be jealous. How often do you find old GM iron with 96k on the odo for low bux. Its running stock now and badly needs all of the trick and tweaks I have learned from all of you. As soon as I recover from my road trip I will pull it back into the shop for upgrades including a better replacement turbo and exhaust. K heres pix of the beast. I haven't given it a name yet. Its black and ominous. I'm thinking Darth something.

Typical Chevy diesel with the hood up.

Thanks Buddy. Good one. Darth Haul had me lmao. I have read lots of your posts. My road trip would be a good one to post too. Learned lots about 6.5s fast. I may have cooked #8 cyl a bit tho. Hit 225 degrees way too often on the way down.

Nice looking truck welcome to the site. Do you have the torsion bars turned all the way up or straight front end.
Nomex suit cooled off yet? LOL

Six inch skyjacker kit and blocks in the back with 35 inch MT tires in the second photo. Not a big fan of lift blocks, but it will do for now. The 35s were shot and I put 6 new 33 inch AT tires on it for the trip to Texas. They cost almost as much as a good BB Turbo would. The 35s were too loud even with 600 bux worth of Dynamat and Lizard Skin. Much better road manners now. The thing is still a beast to drive. Hard to park and still bigger than a new F350 CC DRW.

Hard to park and still bigger than a new F350 CC DRW. I paid $2600 for it with 96k on the odo Then had it shipped back from Galveston, TX. Been working on it since last July. Still got a few small things to do to it.
It was worth all of the late nights and skinned knuckles. I couldn't have done it with out the knowledge of all of the members on this site.
I made it to Stephenville TX from 100 miles west of Clovis NM with a wet hand towel wrapped around the PMD. Drove like that for a week before the heat sink and new PMD showed up. Only had to wet down the towel before I went anywhere. Learned that trick from one of the members here. Would have sucked stuck on the side of the road a second time with a horse in the trailer in 90 plus degree heat.
I siezed a belt tensioner pulley 4 hours from home the first day in the middle of nowhere. Cooked the motor and the PMD to 260 degrees getting it and the horse off of the road. I had a slight missfire after the repair, but pushed on anyways.
Put a new radiator, water wetter, modded SD fan clutch and PMD heat sink on it for the trip home. Got home in three days with no problems. Its all stuff I knew I needed to do before I headed out, but ran out of time. I had only been driving it for two weeks before the trip. Considering it hadn't been driven since 2008 I think it turned out to be a great adventure for me, my truck and my horse.

What does the horse really think?:D

Nice truck, you stole it with those low miles.

My horse has been in the trailer for some short local trips and can get a little fussy. He was a real champ on this trip. It took 42 hours and four days to get down there. It was like hauling cotton balls. You would seldom know he was back there. After the first breakdown we got towed with the truck on the roll back wrecker and another with the trailer. We got dropped off at a Ford dealership parking lot about midnight. He spent the night tied out to the traier and I slept in the truck. It was 34 degrees that night. Carquest opened at 8 and I had the horse poop scooped up off thier lot and was gone before they even opened on Saturday.
Not including tires I think I'm into the truck around $8000 including paint, bodywork, dynamat, new leather interior ect. I spent lot of time trolling the wrecking yard for all of the interior bits and pieces. Mechanical pieces I went strait to the stealership for. Others I buy wholesale through my business(Glow plugs, belts, hoses, ect. Dealer parts I get job shop pricing on. I only want to have to do this once, so I spent a little more for better parts.
I need to do the aftermarket exhaust, but want to keep it quiet. Also a replacement turbo and aftermarket tune with WMI. I already have Heaths new SB intake. In stock trim I don't notice any difference with it tho. The original round filter assembly was damaged and these 6.5s are really rare around here. So it was easier to do a SB upgrade. I will say it was a nice fit and the quality was excelllent. Most 6.5s around here have been converted to 454 gassers.
Its amazing what you can fix with a wet rag, duct tape and Tic Tacs.

Maybe a moderator can move the truck discussion to a new thread, so this one can be as much about turbos as possible, and the truck discussion isnt lost in it.

Thats the end of the truck story for now. Thanks for letting me share. A replacement turbo is in the near furture as the GM8 isnt getting the job done and I would like to see increased performance and mileage made possible by a turbo replacement/upgrade.

Darth Haul :), you should start another thread about your truck, and then update it with progress you make.

Thanks for the suggestion. Should be all set......

Nice looking Rig you got there...your on the best site possible if you need help or advice about improving the beast...

I think the CC DRW only came with 4.10. I did a tooth count when I did the gear oil change and confirmed that.
