Nice work. I like the idea of a smooth transition from the filter element to the turbo intake. The current stock setup has too many crevaces and bends IMO for good flow.

Is that the bottom half of a high flow filter housing? If so, it looks like one could use the filter element and housing from the stock high flow airbox and incoroprate the piping as well. The whole setup could pass for stock if done properly.

Part numbers? I'd like to give it a try.

it is the bottom of the stock box. im using it to act as a splash guard. you can really hear the turbo with this intake and fuel economy went up as well. the pcv gromit is 42323 from canadien tire(dont know what vehicle its from) i bought a 1ft section of 3inch OD exhaust tubing to join the tubes, from gregg distributors i got 2 nelson 90 deg rubber intake elbows part# 89818k, and just some regular clamps. there was only 1 cut to make on 1 elbow, it was about an inch on the intake side of the turbo to make clearence the battery post. i cant remember what size whole saw i used but drilled the whole and the grommit fit nice and tight(no glue needed). i sliced 2, 2inch pieces of the aluminized exhaust tubing to but the elbows togather and put the filter on, thats it. took me 1/2 hour or so. if somthing isnt clear just ask and ill try to explain it better. and im in the process of getting a tig welder so i can make some nice custom intakes and intercooler piping. ill make shure i keep everyone posted when their done

just installed the exhaust. i really noticed the torque and you can hear the turbo even better. when you stepped on the gas she really takes off. i cant wait to see the fuel milage difference

I would find a way to put the cover back on the box, it will really make a difference in your IATs. There is a thread floating around where a member did a test with the cover on and then with it off, made a real difference.

The 3" 90 deg rubbers are about $10 us. each.
Your filter seems very small; my stocker would start to clog on me around 5-6k miles.
I went to S&B for the 9"" long dual cone; works better longer, but is a PITA to clean and oil. Back to stock now, change out easy and fast. Lots of dry dusty dirt in Baja.

Just as a thought on a possible evolution of the idea - I wonder about using the 9" long type cone filter w/ just one 90, and enlarging the hole in the inner fender for the necessary room?

Curious if eliminating one of the 90 degree bends would be significantly less restrictive to the max airflow our 6.5 demands?

I'd really like to straighten out the intake path into the compressor section, but I can't envision a good way of doing that w/o relocating the passenger side battery.

the room between the battery and the elbow is no more then 1.5 inches. and with the longer tube you are now creating more veocity. you will not notice a difference with the added 90 deg elbow. ya its a shitty filer i have and im lookin at a 9in k&n and close off the box to keep it from the heat. i also am going to make an intercooler as well once my tig welder gets here so i can up the boost a lettle bit later. i dont like the intake they sell on ssdiesel supply, i like mine better. but its your truck and thats just my thought. hope i could help a little

another thing, with the factory junk setup i used to get alot of oil coming through my cdr valve and into my turbo and intake, now i have nothin at all and it stays nice and clean

here is my similar set up. i just used the factory 90 i know it isn't the smoothest but it was cheap. the filter could be changed to a longer one if one chose to, which i may do later.
but the truck runs better and you can hear the turbo sing.

Enclose that badboy, and put a fender vent on the outside of that pass side fender, and block off the inside of the fender port, and I think you'd have the ultimate cold air intake. That entire fender is constantly hit with the fanwash, and has to act as a pre-air warmer before the air even hits the air filter.

I've been wanting to do this for some time, but would really want a decent IAT gauge first, to get some data. I do have scanner / laptop ability, but its such hassle to keep that thing going, its just not the same as a permanantly mounted gauge to stare at while driving.

i am working on a fender vent. have an old fender that i will sacrifice until i get it to work like i want. i'll get a few pics as soon as i can.

id like to see for sure. im getting my tig welder in and then the fun begins. i want to make a cold air intake and powder coat it and a smaller intercooler cause it doesnt push much boost, just to see what happens. enyone else you know put an intercooler in theirs? i want a smaller one to keep the spool time up
