My $5 Turbo Master

Since the winter, I have been doing some small things to get the best performance out of my truck with stock fuel. Intake, "exhaust" and a turbo master got me a little extra kick and some better MPG. Admittedly, my first attempt at a turbo master did not yield great results. As you can see, it consisted of an eye bolt and a tensioner spring. Worked well, I could adjust my boost pretty well, but the spring was too tight to really get good response, it was kind of all or nothing. Only cost me about $8 for the bolt and spring, but I was never really satisfied with it.

Having seen some of the turbo masters people on here made, as well as the 6.5 group on Facebook (I highly recommend joining BTW) I decided to take a shot at making a better one, which works with a compression spring the same way Heath's does. I only have a picture of it done, nothing from when I made it, so Ill just describe it best I can. Basically I cut the waste gate housing in half, leaving the cup on the bottom, drilled out the plastic fitting that the rods slides thru, ran some 5/16" threaded rod thru the hole, made the waste gate end of the arm into about a 60 degree angle to hook into the turbo, then ran some hardware on the other end. Sitting in the cup, it goes, small washer, big washer, spring, big washer, small washer, nut, nut. Works well. I'm happy with it.

Looks great!!!

By using the original pod, you ensure that the geometry of the wastegate movement is in the correct plane.

Yeah like I said, the old one did its job, just nowhere near as well as the new one will. These things are so simple to make, everyone should have one. Since the spring seems more responsive, I wonder if my MPG will get better.
