Muffler or Straight Pipe?

I got the camera battery charger last Friday, so was able to pull some pics off. I'll put some more pics up, but I havent finished the pane and WMI since the pressure switches failed on the intake. They must not be as good as my PMD there :)

Later I saw the warning on the Hobbs pressure switch box not to install in hot or vibrating location such as engine intakes.

I have 3 inch down pipe to 4 inch to single 5 inch stack even with the cab. its loud. i cant hear the CB going down the interstate. Someday Im going to put a muffler on it and dump it out if front of the passenger side duals. Its to loud for my boy in there, even though it puts him right to sleep
 
My 2 (non) cents

I tried many setups:
A) 3" mandrel DP to 4" mandrel over axle = too loud for the sidewalk... like deafeningly RUDE. oddly the long exhaust got better mileage with a muffler, but much more power without (It was a super 40 FM).
B) 3"MDP to 4" straight ending just beyond cab (EC). cut off under truck = holy crap posi burnouts batman! but god damn annoying.. could not talk in truck on freeway with the windows open..lol and rumbly w/closed
C) 3"MDP to 4" all mandrel to stack in pics = This setup achieves the right volume for engine awareness but in cab quiet when the vent window is closed. When the vent window is open, it's glorious!

Also if you run high boost (turbomaster or w/e) the wastegate is mostly closed.. and the real rumble comes when those longer wavelengths are NOT chopped up by the turbine impeller... so if you dont *open the gates of hell* all the time, and you need the power... I don't think IMHO you will regret NOT having a muffler... especially if you love turbo whistle..

Wouldn't a pipe straight out the back flow better than the 90 degree bend?

I'm thinking of cutting my tailpipe off before the 90 and straight piping it out the back, just wondered if it's going to soot up the back bumper & door.
(on the suburban of course)
 
As long as the bend is gradual it doesnt cause much of an issue. and straight out the back may be unfriendly for a trailer, tailgate accessory, the smoke screen to the car behind you.
 
I found decent prices and very fair shipping at Air Flow Systems online store. its only like an extra $1 shipping when adding any extra piece. They sell large exhaust elbows of all kind as well as rubber intake elbows or all sorts of adpators.
