i was told to shoot for around 1200 i think is what cumminalong told me, but how long is "sustained"? and what is the magic max egt number? Im gonna scribe a small mark on my gauges so I know(on my cummins gauges and on the ones in my 6.5(already got the number for the 6.5))....Thanks!

You can run 1250* all day long.

1350 - 1400 is okay for short spurts......i.e. track, passing, beating up on local Mustangs, etc.

Run much higher than that for more than a few seconds and you're starting to ask for trouble.

Remember, you have aluminum pistons. Aluminum begins to melt aroudn 1220*.....1250* is just gas temp, it isn't hot enough to heat soak the metal.

Get up over that 1400 mark and you'll start causing cumulative damage that will eventually find it's way through the piston.

Keep it under 1250 and you're golden.
