What is the maximum boost that a ppe boost valve allows? I am only seeing 26 to 28 with 30 for a bit if it is going up fast. I thought I used to get at least 32.

This is from PPE's web site.

"The Boost Increase Valve, is designed for 01-04 Duramax LB7 diesel engines, increases boost pressure from 18-20 PSI to 28-30 PSI for additional horsepower and reduces EGT (exghaust gas tempuatures). Additional fueling may be needed to gain higher boost levels."

How much more do you want? From everything I've read 32 is about the limit you want to push if it is a stock turbo. Many have found that nymore can result in immediate turbo death.

I just thought it was higher before. The gauge is in the line just before the boost valve it that makes a difference. I think that reads slightly different than some locations.
I think I have been getting a lot more smoke than I used to but I might just be imagining it. (or didn't notice the smoke before)
I guess what I want to know is if that is the same as what other people are seeing or if it is lower.

you could possibly have other problems causing black smoke
That is why I was wondering about the boost. It seems like once the wastgate opens then smoke pours out. I don't remember that before but I might just not have been looking. I am not even sure there is a problem yet.

you running an aftermarket tune? possibly your egr isnt working right. might be clogged. have you fingersticked and blocked your egr yet. seems like a good mod to clean out the engine. btfarm recently said every 150 or so miles he drops the hammer down to get all excess carbon out. he said he got a nice cloud of black smoke then it was done.

Might I ask what brand of tune it is? Also, correct me if I'm wrong but I believe all of the DMAX's came with EGR's. Do you mean that when you purchased the truck is was already blocked and fingerstuck? Or that there isn't one period?

It is a custom made tune. LB7's only had EGRs and catalytic converters in California.
I was watching it this morning and it will hold 30psi so I guess it is working ok, just thought it used to be higher.

Mine would get an overboost with the edge and no boost valve going up big hills.
I would like to see some actual psi that other people are getting. I have been told that 32 psi is normal with the boost valve. I have plenty of fuel for it.

You should have plenty of fuel to max out the boost valve.

It usually peaks at 32-33psi on most trucks, but I saw spikes that pegged my 35psi gauge from time to time.

And to the 6.5 guys. EGR was not standard on all Dmaxes until the LLy (04.5)
