hey all,

got a buddy with a 1966 olds 98. its a nice original car that he bought at an auction, and it runs pretty good, but the auto choke thermostat is missing.

he found one on ebay, but it is a little steep. it is Delco PN: 7036095

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1313&_nkw=7036095&_sacat=0&_from=R40

does anyone know where he can find one that is a little cheaper? aftermarket would be acceptable if he knew the number.

the toronado is a different part, so that is no go.

any info appreciated,
thanks!

Looks just like the one that most any MERCRUISER used with a QUADRAJET from the late 70's on up to the mid 90's. I know I just did some work for my neighbor, and his 4.3L's in his SEA RAY used the same basic choke thermostat on them. It would be easy enough to go down and buy a universal choke cable kit, and swap it in place of the thermostat I would think.

I may have a QJet in the shop storeroom with a choke assy on it. I'll look later when I go out to plow snow. I may have sold it at a swap meet though.

to my understanding, he said this is down in the manifold, not part of the carb? something about it being special, due to it being in a 66 with the 425, I guess nothing newer will work, and IDK if the 425 was in anything older.

It uses heat off the engine to move the coil. You used to be able to get an electric one to replace it.

I know GM used a lot of the thermostats early on that mounted to the intake with a link rod going up to the carb to control the choke. And many marine engines continued using the same basic setup up into the 90's.
