Laptop charging question

I have an Acer laptop and it's been a good computer. I fooled around with some power settings and got a new power supply because my old one had a loose wire and now when I close the lid it runs off of the battery.

As soon as I open it up, it will run off of the power supply again and recharge the battery.

Does anyone know what settings I need to change?

The choices I have are when computer is:

Plugged in:
Running on batteries:

I can:

Turn off monitor:
Turn off hard disk:
System standby:
System hibernates:

For each choice, I can choose different amounts of time or choose never.

that switch is not supposed to make a choice of batteries or AC Power. Does the new power supply works when you plug it in? the switch on the lid should just tell it to go into power savings mode if you choose that setting....if you have it plug into the AC it should automatically run off the AC....

Anytime I am using the laptop, it runs off of the power supply, when I close the lid, it runs off of the batteries.

Pepp called and we set it like his is and it's still doing the same thing.

I'm going to play with the settings some more.

OK, I don't know why but with the new power supply it works fine when running the laptop but it won't maintain the battery when the lid is closed. Went back to the old power supply with the patched up power cord and it's working like it's supposed too now.

Will check with the new power supply vendor tomorrow and try to figure out why it's doing this.

I think the power supply can not communicate with the computer and tell it what it is doing, in todays world, everything is dependant on communicating with the cpu. Your vendor should know what I am talking about.
 
I emailed the vendor from bay and explained the problem and they said the power supply is bad. They are shipping out a replacement as we speak..

Not bad service.
