Some video's and pics of the setup. Just thrown in there for now. Will be a better setup if I can get my hands on some better exhaust manifolds and then I can make my intake. Will be much more permanent then. Pretty smoke free for having a 1/2 turn on the pump.

That sounds really good. I love the downspool when you let off at the end.

So do I. I love taking a few mains in town. Everytime I clutch in to shift, I get a few head looks haha

Get in touch with Leroy Diesel. He is cooking up better manifolds with prodding from good customers like me...

Sounds awesome! Sounds like the HX40wII turbo when I still had my other truck. Does sound like a big rig during a shift

New exhaust manifolds? What are these like, maybe for a center mount setup?

I have been looking at the Banks Sidewinder 6.2L manifolds. Not center mount but will be 10x better than stock. I see leroydiesel has the same idea I had. The drivers side flow goes right into the turbine side instead of trying to re-join with the back 2 cylinders on the passenger side. Should aid a fair bit in spool up I assume, allowing the use of slightly larger turbo's. The turbo essentially moves forward and the drivers side pipe cross's over on the front side of the motor. WAY BETTER design. I know leroydiesel was looking for a group buy. I am gonna get a set and hopefully get it in. It should in theory also help mileage and help reduce back pressure. If it helps spool up that much, I may even swap back to the ATT. Would really like to. So that is the plan. Actually, an idea I have been tossing around is if it moves the turbo that much more forward, plus the airbox room since I took my AFE box out, I could manifold the HX35 and use the ATT for an atmospheric compound setup and mount it where the airbox would go. Would be really really easy and simple to do that way. We will see if I can just get a set of these manifolds. If I could, I would probably do a whole before/after results as far as spool rpm and 0-10psi times, and time and money permitting, before/after dyno results. That is the plan right now.

Very cool! I would love to get a banks manifold if I can find it at a fair price for a 6.5 to swap in my truck.

The turbonator bros use a banks manifold with a Passenger side n/a manifold with the outlet forward with a custom cross over pipe in front of the motor. The cross over pipe is much shorter

I thought about going that route depending on how tight a fit it would be. I have looked at all possible options. hard to tell without it sitting right in front of me.

So far I have been able to source the banks manifold for about $380

Seems like a good route considering the lack of fabrication needed

They make the Banks for the OBS to clear the HVAC box and for our body style. Difference is how far forward the turbo is. Airflow also looks different between them. You can see them in the PDF's on Bank's site after clicking the "downloads" tab.

Leroy was able to get Banks to sell parts separately. He pointed out the two designs as I thought there was only one. This is a years old discussion, but, re-inventing the wheel as Banks does offer the part from decades ago. Lately some have found better turbo's to go with that part. The thing that matters is taking the discussion to a working engine with the better turbo's. That will be interesting. Taking the Banks Sidewinder kit, tossing the turbo, and eating their lunch for power claims. Some have already done this without Banks parts... :hihi:

Bright side is this is cheaper or the same cost as the factory manifold and yes the factory part does warp to failure with age. I had to replace the manifolds on my engines and was lucky to get them NOS off Ebay - all but one. That one was $450 from the dealer with a discount.

I thought surge was an alternate power / stall under load which was definitely harsh on the turbo and the outright stall occurred when power was deliberately reduced.

I am not sure. I don't think it is bad on it. It makes that sound even when not building boost and just shifting between gears.
