John deere 6820 transmission

My friend has John deere 6820 and we have been wondering why it has one empty range slot in gear box and noticed 6520 has all 6 of them. :rolleyes5:
Is it posssible to update that 6820 transmission from 20 spped to 24 speed?
Wondering if there is all parts in trans allready, but one range is just blocked out...:skep:
 
I would guess a 24 speed is prob an factory option,i doubt the gearing is installed in the tranny.IMO Updating to 24 speeds might cost more in parts alone than the tractor is worth + it most likely requires to dismantle the entire tranny and rear end.

My guess is these missing gears might be just creeper gears for use in vegie or green house farming.
 
you may be right.. and good question is too where you need more then 20 gears in 150hp tractor which allready goes 50 km/h, couz there is no need fo rcreeper gears..
