I'm going to build a custom air intake box soon

I did an airbox/battery location swap when I installed my HX40. I modified the existing battery tray to work. A word of caution - make sure you place the battery far enough away from the firewall so the hood hinge doesn't hit it when closing the hood.....ask me how I know. :shifty:

My air filter will be open for a little while, but soon I will be making my own airbox in the front corner of the engine compartment. So far I'm planning on using some aluminum sheet I have (I'm guessing about 16 gauge, but don't know for sure at the moment) because it will be easy to work with. Then I will cover it with DEI Floor & Tunnel Shield to keep the heat out. If I find some nice sheets of ABS plastic when it comes time to make it, then I may use that instead. If you work on yours before I work on mine I will be interested to see what you do.

Very nice I might start working on mine soon it's starting to get a-little warmer and warmer out first I need to clean my garage and get all the boat parts out that we don't need and sell them. My dad filled it with boat parts because we did a motor swap last summer/fall on his boat we bought a donor boat for 200 anyway. I don't know if I'm going to do a battery relocation I might and then I might not I was thinking of using a 3" to 4" coupler from the turbo to a 4" 90* then a coupler to another 90* and then my air filter then I was going to make a box out of 16 gauge steel coated in ceramic paint or a box made from plexiglass.

I understand having to do many things in order to do the thing you want to do....it's a trait I inherited from my father. :rolleyes:

Your plan sounds like it will work. One thing I found that you may like is that you can get reducing elbows from SiliconeIntakes.com that are 90s, and also reduce from 4" to 3", so you can do all the reducing and bending with one piece rather than 3 pieces. But maybe you're thinking of doing that so you would have the 4" 90 for future turbo upgrades?

Thanks Yea I found that too the other day I was thinking about silicone but no I just for future cold air intakes if I ever get rid of the truck I'll take the intake off and put the stock one on lol.
 
I look forward to seeing what you come up with. I am using a similar filter to what you are thinking about using. I have the Donaldson B085011. I hadn't heard of the 6637 before so I did a quick search. Some info I found (that I didn't verify) said the 2 filters were the same size, but the Donaldson is designed to be open air (it has a hydrophobic coating) and the 6637 is designed to be used in a closed box. Otherwise they seem to be functionally the same, so it will be cool to see different boxes made for the same basic filter.

The 6637 is waterproof supposedly I know all the powerstroke guys run that as an open filter.
