I meant to ask, what are you calling an ignition module?
I know what it does on a gas engine, didn't know we had one

It would be handy to have a remote start button wired to both small and big stud on the starter solenoid permanently to diagnose starter issues or bad batt conn from the rest of the circut upstream.
It might double as another "getting one home" mod in case something in the rest of the circut fails.

Once temps hit 45 my problem came back with a mean vengeance. Been SUPER busy all week :thumbsup::thumbsup:, and now that I have a nice Long weekend with temps around 50-55 :thumbsup::thumbsup: I can spend some quality bonding time with my starter system.
Its been horrible of late. I've had to rip the inner flap out and jump it with a screwdriver, which always results in fireworks. :nono:.
Before fail condition. I've noticed that if I held the key to crank it would make its connection after a few seconds.
Does this sound like my solonoid lead wire is broken/corroded somewhere? Before winter I re-did both power leads to my starter trying to fix this issue. I took my time, and crimped, soldered, liquid elec tape (which makes it bitch to jump sol now
. Perhaps follow that wire around?It just doesn't have the same ign mod failure feel....
THIS I will tell you. I am going to run another wire off the sol turn on, so i can easily jumper it. Picture me doing key on at 5:00am in the dark, and running around under the wheelwell trying to get the magical screwdriver position to spin the starter before the glows cool down....
BUT!!! The ol' gal NEVER ONCE made me crawl underneath it in the snow, or the deep freeze this winter! Can't ask for any more than that.
Ideas please guys. Need some help here. I guess I'm dropping the starter again to install my 2nd lead for momentary switch..... ARGH!! :mad2::mad2:
I hope I find an obvious problem while I'm in there.

Well you did mention it, and good point.
Where is this switch? I was just under there, that wire disappears fast.
No change in netral or park. but where is the switch located?

NSBU=Neatral safety back-up switch. It's the black switch on the gear selectro shaft at the tranny with 2 plugs on it. A bad solonoid can also cause this as well as a failing starter.

Well, I shaved the beard, got a haircut, and came back hoping somebody here would tell me how to fix my truck!!

Starter Relay.
I swapped it with the A/C relay (non a/c truck) and fired up, and cranked fast! (seemed faster than normal)
Tried it 5 times. Worked 5 times. Wasn't even doing squat earlier.
Thankfully I found this before I dropped the starter.
I'm going to double check my starter brace while its jacked up. I gave the underside a wd-40 bath, and a gave it a good blow job.

Don't be too sure, I did the same thing, then switched back, and it started
fine with the original starter relay - so I put the A/C relay back, and left
it there - still had the same issue a couple of days later.
I wish it would stop completely, it'd be a lot easier to fix. Right now,
it only has start issue about once every other week.

2 weeks later and all sorts of temperatures from 20 to 70f. No cranking issues what-so-ever. I do need to replace my fender flap which took one too many rip-off's...
Tookie, if you still have issues perhaps its your connections inside the underhood fuse box?? they all clean and tight?

I try to solder every connection I make. It's not always possible. I use a soldering iron or butane torch.
For crimpers I use Kleins. I never had any luck with the multi-tool stripper/crimpers.

Yes, but very intermittent - did it once in the last 2 weeks -
when it did, I held key in the start position, and moved the
shift lever to neutral, and it started. Second time I've done this,
next chance I get I'll change the neutral safety switch, it's
relatively cheap.......

Update: Not sure if this was my problem, but may have been.
Changing injectors today, when I disconnected the battery
terminal on PS, the crossover cable from DS fell out of the
terminal. :mad2: I guess when I checked all the grounds,
I only did half the job.
I'll update on this in a couple of weeks.......

Just an update: Problem ( I believe)was the brand new
(not reman) starter from NAPA - when I had my engine out
last month, I decided to swap the starter, even though it had
been on the truck for less than a year, just to eliminate it as a
possible cause. Has not had a single starting issue since then.
