If its not one thing its 10 others. :rolleyes5:

Today I ran to lowes to get some furniture grade plywood for a podium I need to build for the american legion. Long story short there is alot of stupid people at lowes today who messed me up so I went to home depot. They didnt have what I wanted but it will work. Then on the way to the truck with the plywood I see a big puddle under the engine. My upper radiator hose needs a better clamp so it has a tiny leak, I thought it got worse but after I got home I checked it out and it looks like the wate rpump is leaking.

Is there a better pump I should get other then whatever the parts store has?

Get a reman GM if possible. Avoid the *new* china junk.

As Ak said, look for the 'HO' which is cast in the housing...

HO pumps.
All the HO pumps will interchange and fit any blocks. All the HO pumps except for the 2000 model year had four bolts holding the clutch to the pump. The 2000 pump has a threaded fitting for the fan clutch and only the 2000 and newer clutch will fit this pump.

Fan blades.
The early fan clutch, up to I think 96, had six bolts holding the fan blade on. Then they went to four bolts, fan blade to clutch, up through the DMaxs. So the clutch you use dictates the fan you use. Early fan clutch requires the early six bolt fan. Later clutches, four bolt or thread on, will accept either the four bolt 6.5 fan or the DMax fan blade.

Fan clutches.
The next thing to know is the clutch from early up to 99 will fit on any pump up to 99. Then the clutch changes to the thread on style for the 2000 model year.

Confusing? Yup. Well here's what I'd recommend.

If you don't do any towing go for the 97 to 99 HO pump. You can use your current fan and clutch (six bolts fan to clutch, four bolts clutch to pump) initially. Then as funds allow you can go for the newer four bolt clutch and a DMax nine blade fan.

If you do any towing you should go for broke and get the 2000 model year balanced flow pump. This will require the thread on clutch. This clutch will also accept the DMax fan blade, or the four bolt 6.5 fan blade.

I looked at it this morning and it looks like the bottom radiator hose is pulled down off the water pump about 3/4" from where it should be. Im draining it right now and Ill check that out and see if it fixes the leak.

I dont drive the truck in the winter, last year the weatehr held out until december when I quit driving it. I wouldnt mind doing the the timing chain if I have to put a pump in it. I just wish I could squeeze a few more weeks out of it. I need to haul some scrap off.

I parked today and smelled antifreeze and it was running off the bottom pully. Its supposed to get nasty out so I guess Ill tear into it this winter.
