I stopped short to avoid skateboard kid and then heard big noise like driving over sheet metal . Drove half a block then no trans... Won't go in gear.

What year? No codes? While the computer (presuming the truck has one) might not have triggered the dash light yet, chances are good it is storing more than one . . .
