Do you cut the clamps on the rubber boot and slide it apart?

Does anynody have any pics &/or instructions for removing the front drive shaft from the NP 246?

Any I've seen, you take the 4 bolts out of the flange on the transfer case and the 4 bolts out of the yoke on the front differential.Compress the shaft by prying it out of the front diff. No need to take the shaft apart.

This must be a 1998 and newer thing or 246 transfer case specific. no bolted flange from the transfer case. All the other transfer cases I had were as you described.

My newest service book is a 1996 so it didn't show anything applicable.

Why do they take something that works and change it?
