How do I permanently remove the EGR Valve?.....correctly

I think the EGR is causing more problems than it's worth, do I need a special plate or can I fabricate one out of steel?

Might be easier to get a non egr manifold. You'll probably need an upgraded computer to stop it from throwing codes as well. Ed

it's throwing codes now, changing the whole mainifold is more than I can really handle esp if I break something important. I had the egr out and cleaned it up. cleared the "check engine" lite went out for awhile but came back with the same fault.

Make a plate to go under it for now and leave the vacuum line attached.

1 option is to get a chip either a performance one or just a stock one from a 1 ton or 3/4 ton 1994 or 1995, that way the computer will stop checking the egr vacuum supply (no more EGR codes). This will eliminate the codes, then if you desire you could also pull the upper & lower intake & swap them out to improve any potential air restrictions from the EGR valve & shrouding.

I was told I was getting EGR codes and a constant check engine light. I read here somewhere I couldn't change the chip I'd have to change the whole computer. I'm loath to do that because I'm getting good mileage, 19-21, I'd like to figure out a way just to "trick the computer to think the egr is ok and take the thing out.

last I was told an egr is just a pollution control device that doesn't help performance at all but garuntees a trip to the dealer

You were told wrong, the chip can be changed in a 95.

Yes you can bypass the the EGR, or block it off. You can also pull the upper intake off & plug the hole with a freeze plug & remove some of the restriction in the existing intake.

But with the current chip in yr computer you must keep all the vacuum hoses hooked up to the solenoids including the baro sensor mounted on the firewall.

On yr fan shroud there should be a vacuum schematic line routing, all the vacuum hoses need to be attached without leaks with a good vacuum pump. The only one that can be removed to bypass the EGR function is the one that is attached to the EGR valve itself. Plug that one at the EGR valve and if all the hoses are good & the solenoids are functioning you should not get a code on a 1994 or 1995.


After you check the above then clear the codes & then recheck for same & come back with what ya got....
