anybody ever seen, installed or have a Hooker exhaust system on their dmax? i didnt even know they made them till this morning but i found one for a really good price. most systems for the dmax seem to be about the same but was just wondering if anybody had any experience with them.

and the big debate over 4 or 5". still not sure which one to go with. i know 5" doesnt offer a performance gain over 4 but lower EGT's would be a good thing and the sound would probably be better. i havent heard many 5's on a dmax though. what do you guys think that have 4's and 5's? also, with a 5" did anyone notice longer spool up times or reduced low end power at all? i do a lot of city driving so losing low end would suck

I have no experience with Hooker products on a Dmax. I had a set of Hooker headers on a built 4x4 that I had back in the '80s, and they were of very good quality.

I run a 4" system on my Dmax, and am pleased with it. A 5" will give you a deeper tone, but should not affect performance either way.

i also have 4 and love it. Only reason I went with is it cause I wanted the dual look but 5" doesn't fit so if you want dual exhaust 4" single side 5" that's what eventually made my decision

I think these motors sound awesome. 5" systems are for bling only and offer no gain or loss with the larger tubing. Its more for bragging rights. I've heard 5" systems and they dont sound any different to me than any 4" system with no cat.

good info there, thanks nick! i have only heard 4's on dmax's so i didnt have anything to compare to. and it will be catless either way and probably straight piped to begin with, if its too loud i can always get a muffler later.

The sound is relative to the muffler you choose. The length in particular. Ive had no muffler (too noisy), a bullydog 26" (very quiet), a Dynomax 16" (loud and ricer sounding), and now a 19" AeroTurbine (good sound, loud at high rpm and actually decreases egt, manufacturer says two mounted inline to get most benefit).

Hope this helped

I do have experience with a 5" exhaust. I went with the 5" turbo back exhaust on my '06 LLY and was very pleased with it. I mainly went with it for looks, it was the MBRP Installers Series. It was the look I wanted. So no chrome tip, just the pipe. I kept the MBRP muffler on, which is pretty much straight through. I really like the sound of it. I like the sound of any Dmax with a straight pipe exhaust. I think the 4" and 5" sounds about the same, it mainly comes down to the look of each. As for the loss of low end power, I really could not tell. With the exhuast I was running a Predator tuner set either at the 85hp or 120 hp tunes. My opinion, go with the 5" from MBRP. I think you'll like it. Real easy to install, and a really nice exhaust note, especially when you get on it.

Here's what my 4" straight pipe sounds like (this is my truck)- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2tl8-DdfSUU

Sorry but I think Duramax motors sound great with a straight pipe. Depends on the exhaust and motor year too. My buddy has a 4" mbrp with a muffler on his LMM and it sounds about the same as mine. When i had my Silverline muffler in it was way too quiet.
