Any one know for sure If I can check pump timing drive gear in relation to cam and crank with just the water pump off. I have the pump gear and cam gear dot to dot with crank dampner lined up with timing pointer on front does that tell me 100% that there is no sheared key on the end of the cam or what. Anyone ever had one shear?

I have heard of them shearing if the ip seizes up. There is a 50-50 chance that the crank and cam gear are timed right if the balancer is on the timing mark and the ip dots are lined up. While you are in there take the bolts out of the gear on the ip. clean any oil off, locktite with blue locktite torque to 35ft. lb.,The bolts have been known to come loose. Had it happen with one of mine.
