Took my truck in for a noise and found out my turbo is shot. They said the waste valve froze and built up too much pressure and also blew my intercooler. They gave me a price for a reman turbo and oem intercooler and install for $2950, but they are pushing for me to go to a Performance turbo and a Banks intercooler kit for $3750. This is a big Diesel shop in Madison, WI (Diesel injection service) Big questions are is it worth the extra 800 bucks? (I don't chip my truck and probably never will) and what will the performance turbo do to my fuel mileage? Also, what could have caused this at only 78,000 miles?
Big thank you to anyone who can help!
Joe

Find a used turbo over on Cumminsforum.com or see if Rich has one for you. That is way to much money for a stock turbo.

I've got 3 stock turbos and a stock intercooler for you.

The reason that stock intercooler blew is the '05's had plastic end tanks and it probably blew the seam.

I have a stock '06 intercooler and 3 stock turbos that'll do ya right.

$300 for the turbo, $400 for the intercooler plus shipping and it's on the way.

Swapping the intercooler is stupid easy. 30 mins with hand tools.

The easiest way to swap the turbo is pull it off WITH the manifold as an assembly. Basic hand tools, takes about 3 - 4 hours the first time you do it.
