I bought some headlight lens polish to hopefully clear up hazy lenses.

Anybody have any tips to help produce better results?

I buffed out my wifes cars headlights last week. I used 1500 grit wet/dry sandpaper and sanded the lens till it was cloudy looking. Then I used a drill with a buffer wheel I got from Home Depot and buffed it out with turtle wax rubbing compound (green bottle). They were in bad shape, but looked alot better when I was done.

A couple of weeks ago I tried toothpaste but it did not seem to work as good as I had hoped. I will try this kit I bought and see if that can clear up the haze. Maybe they are to far gone to be recovered?

I just bought some and did my car as well. I didnt use any sand paper, just an old t shirt turned into a rag.

Sorry to hear that, On my mother-in-laws 01 caravan the headlights looked like candles, they look better then new with the old toothpaste trick. Good luck with what you bought

I tried the Turtle Wax kit and it cleared the haze off the lenses but it appears like like there are tons of micro-cracks. Kind of like Tupperware gets after you use it in the microwave alot. They do not look anywhere close to new.

I think I might try the sand paper and buffer. That would remove all the tiny cracks I would think?

I used a $20 kit from Auto Zone. Follow the instructions and for good measure, I did the following.

For the sanding portion, I prepped the area around the lens with a couple layers of 3M painters tape to keep from scratching up the grill in my enthusiasm for the project:rolleyes5:

I used part of a wooden paint stirring stick, cut to the width of the sand paper provided, to help ensure even pressure across the surface of the lens (mini block sander). Keep water flowing over the lens and paper while sanding with gentile, even, pressure.

Dry completely between changing grades of paper.

Apply the sealant with 50% overlapping wipes working from top to bottom.

Allow to dry and enjoy the improved lenses.:smile5:

The headlights aren't very large so there is plenty of material to do both the headlights and the turn signals. Might as well, they are both wet, probably fogged as well and it only takes a few extra minutes.
