I am getting ready to get my new bailer and Bale Bandit going and the guy who used it before recommended using preservative on anything above 14 % stem moisture on alfalfa. He felt it was more important on the bandit than on 4x4x8 bales. I already have an dry application system on the bailer, but I don't know what kind to use. Any ideas?

Are you trying to preserve it from molding? Seems like proper storage might be the best method there.....

Other than that, vitamin E is good at preventing oxidation.....

?

Using preservative is fine if your consuming the hay with your own animals. I know lots of people that won't purchase hay if they can smell the preservative. Hay for export using preservative is a definate no-no.

We don't use any preservatives for hay we sell but, we do use Vitamin E for our own stock. And really good storage to prevent mold.
